The Red Handle: would my door fall off?!

Speaking to a local (non-TVR) mechanic recently, I was told that he once had to use 'the method' to get the door open on a TVR, upon which the whole flipping door came off its hinges, landing on the pavement and resulting in an expensive paint repair job.

I'm assuming this was a one-off?

I'm not intending to try it for the sake of satisfying my curiosity, so thought it'd be safer and potentially cheaper to post the question.

Who's pulled it, and what happened?

Go on pull it I dares ya. Seriously - the door should just open, although I don't think it will drop the window, unless of course you bought a car from Billy Smarts Circus then of course the bonnet and boot will fly off, otherwise it should be fine.

Greetings chap, don't think you will get too far with this thread as most things relating to this topic tend to fall on deaf ears.

Sorry for being what may be considered an arse but that is just the way some things are. Why not try pulling it? Not many of us are writing in saying 'don't do it' so it cannot be that bad.

The external passenger door button failed, so to let the missus in I Lent over from the drivers side & the handle came off in my hand, in a moment of rage I ended up throwing said handle in to A brook (think Basil Fawlty)

The driver's one's fine, door just pops open.

As a matter of interest (never having had to 'stop the train' via said handle) what happens to the window, does it drop to clear the A pillar?

Put another way, if you pull the handle with the window up, does the window damage the paintwork?

Just a few weeks ago my trusted, courageous and Chimaera owning friend Oggs demonstrated the art of pulling the red lever thing on my Cerbera. I prepared myself for the onset of Armageddon, but the drivers door simply and unassumingly popped open (i did have the window down so as not to damage seals and what not)

Drop the window 2 inches manually and then pull the handle. It will go back up when you alarm it. Otherwise it does hit the side CF bit.
