Gaz shocks update?
Discussion
You could speak to Steve Howard at Euphoria Racing who looks after my car. I know he had quite a bit of involvement with Derek at Ab-Shocks in getting the best settings for a Cerb, he would give you a good idea as to how they perform compared to the more expensive options. He also maybe able to put you in touch with any Cerb owners he has fitted them for. His number is 01494 761555.
Yep
Steve and Andy have been playing with Cerbs on double adjustables and Car Club kits but there have been about 20 other kits fitted by the likes of Offords and Austec.
The only complaints so far have been a couple of squeakers out of 40 kits and Steve Howard did ask me to extend the rear shocks slightly.(this has been actioned)
I'm hoping that Andy will buy this Cerb he has been looking at and run it as a demonstrator.

Im shortly in the market for some new shocks. Not sure I can stretch to the other ones Austec do, and as its mostly road work, so Im leaning towards some Gaz ones. Worth hunting around for prices or are they likely to be in the same ball park figure?
Just get yourself up to Andy at APM. AVOs aint so bad for road use if budget is key.

Hopefully collecting the cerb this week, so may have a trip down to the Hallowed Grounds that is APM's workshop

I've had the Gaz setup for a few weeks, fitted by Andy @ APM (the rears were leaking so I replaced all 4 corners on Andy's advice). The shox and springs come as a set for those who don't know. Andy says that the standard Bilstein setup is soft sprung with the dampers doing most of the work - a contributing factor to the high failure rate. Mine were only ~3 years and 10k miles old before they failed.
First impressions are good for road use. Personally I slightly prefer the ride of the originals. Bilstein manage to achieve a kind of 'air cushion' ride but with great handling characteristics IMO. I'm now a bit more conscious of pot-holes and the need to avoid them. The car still feels planted, not at all skittish, but the firmer setup manifests itself when the dampers need to move quickly.
They are adjustable, of course. I haven't tried adjusting them yet. On the plus side, I think they would be better than OEM on the track or over undulating surfaces. They also come with a 2 year (I think) warranty and can be rebuilt if they fail. In summary, contrary to my apparently negative write-up, I am actually quite happy with them overall. No doubt they'll perform superbly over continental roads when I take the car down to the south of France next month (can't wait :-)

There is a very important point in this post and that is that no-matter how good the installer, personal preferences apply and I have had my own cars set up by some of the best guys in the business and not quite been happy, I have taken two clicks off the front of both my cars and been much happier with the feel of the car, particularly on B roads.
I would always advise going back for a ride height check and a chat about how the car feels to you, I think you might be surprised at what a difference even a couple of clicks out of 36 will make.
My Car is one of the 'Guinea Pigs' that Derek 'the Gazman' and Steve at Euphoria are using. I've had Gaz Gold fitted, but Steve has asked Derek to get some with a longer body, snd these will be fitted soon (Are they ready yet Derek?).
My views about the Gaz Gold?
On the cars Original, stock, shocks - Under hard acceleration the car would 'twitch around' at the rear, sometimes quite alarmigly! On fast cornering it felt like the rear of the car was 'digging' in i.e when on a right hander the right rear of the car dug inm and vice versa. With the Gaz Gold on this has all been eliminated, the car feels much more secure and planted. On badly surfaced 'B' roads it does tend to bounce around a bit, but only if I am really hammering it, but I have not played around with the settings at all, I'll wait till I get the new shocks fitted.
Overall I would say I am impressed with the shocks, they are a huge improvement over standard (and thats with the 'wrong' ones' fitted) and I'm also well impressed with the work Steve at Euphoria has done, and the way Derek at Absolutely Shocks has looked after me.
If someone can tell me how to post pics on here, I've got some pics of them, and I'll post them here - They look the 'Dogs Bo****ks' by the way !!

Thanks Gazman, I'll try unwinding the fronts a couple of notches. The ride height is set to the default but if anything it looks lower at the rear than stock (ie, wheelarch gap now matches the front ).
This happened on my Chim, the rear springs settled and the rear looked lower. I wound them up 8mm to give me a slightly nose down attitude and I would get Andy to look it over when you can drop in.(nothing like somebody making work for you is there Andy?)

Yes your revised rears will be with Steve tomorrow, they are only 6mm longer but Steve is a perfectionist and who am I to argue with one of the best blokes in the business.

I'm one of the other APM/Gazman test beds and have now done 3000 miles on them, a predominant amount has also been done on track. They have settled down nicely, and I have IMO a great balance for road and race. The car interestingly enough is so confidence inspiring that the tyres have become the limiting factor, I really have thrown it around for the last few months. The big springs 500 front and 400 back have given the right ride and I stiffen up/preload for track use. Very happy, John.
