Machine Gun Exhaust Noise

Got the car washed this morning and went for a run down the M25. Wasnt long before
I heard the car firing like a machine gun when accelerating hard. Ive never heard
this before (only popping and banging on over run)so phoned Castle TVR and explained the prob. I was told it doesnt sound like anything to worry about but to call back on Monday and speak to one of the mechanics just to be sure.

I was hoping to use the car tomorrow but not sure if I should, any advice would be much appreciated. Does anyone know what this machine gun popping on hard acceleration means?

Is the car pulling as strong when it does this or does it feel like its misfiring? If it feels like its misfiring or hesitating then I wouldn't drive it any further, at least not at the higher revs when it does this.

I would probably have a look underneath after a run and see if the cats are glowing red. Sounds like something is detonating. Could be overfueling higher up the rev range, a collapsed or partially blocked cat?

I don't know is the true answer but I thought I would try and apply a little thought.

Just notice that you said that you had washed the car. Maybe water got into something? Now that it's dry, has the symptom dissappeared?

That was what I thought but as the weather has been poor all day I havent had a chance to drive it today to check.

I will have a word with Castle mechanic tomorrow and see what they advise. If they believe water may have got into something and to give it a try, I will see if the problem still remains.

Mine sounds like this at the moment - and it's due to fouled plugs. No.s 4 & 6 on mine are going to be all oily when I pull them out later in the week, the cause, in my case anyway, is oil getting down the valve stem guides. But, having read your posts I would have thought it more likely that you've got water ingress somewhere, you could even have arcing down a plug, so inital thing is to make sure that coil pack and plug ends of the HT leads are dry and firmly in place.
