Anyone fitted a remote Starter solenoid?

Further to my starter motor problems I'm considering relocating the solenoid to a remote, cooler, location.

This is assuming that the solenoid is at fault, which I'm sure it is as when the unit is hot all it does is click, however when the car has cooled down it fires up without problem. The only puzzle is that I cannot understand exactly what's happening, and why it has started all of a sudden. if its sticking when hot what is expanding/sticking and why has it only just started?

Have just found the following...

…in the mid to late 80-s many of the chev small blocks had problems with excessive heat causing the internal resistance of the starter motor to jump way up and cause starting problems when hot. You let them cool down a bit and away they would go.

Any auto electricians care to jump in and comment?

It is the solenoid thats sticking! But the idea of fitting an external solenoid would be very expensive, due to requiring a hole different design of starter motor, as the solenoid includes the plunger to throw the drive!
Sounds to me like you need your starter reconditioning and wrap it with heat wrap!
What temp does your engine run at? i had a 4.5 which went thru a couple of starters due to heat, but it ran in the 100 degree mark all the time! now i have a 4.2 which runs bout 90ish and and still on the original starter!
It maybe worth giving trackcar solutions a buzz and having a word, he does a chip that brings your fans on a lot sooner than normal, which would give you cooler engine bay! good luck
