Getting the gear knob off

Hello,
Trying to get my gear knob off, so that I can clean up my gaiter.

With every word I've typed so far, I get an ever-increasing feeling that this is going to deteriorate rapidly into a Finbar Saunders post.

Still, I'll crack on!

I've tried to twist it really hard, but it just won't budge.

I guess it's possible that someone (the factory?) has put some sort of thread-lock on to secure it, but does anyone have any ideas how to get the ball off? I've tried the suggested Marigold gloves route from other threads, but no joy.

I'm also assuming that the ball is secured by a normal screw thread that must be twisted off anticlockwise?

Oppoosite prob to me - both my cerbs have had the knob unscrew and vibrate annoyingly!

Yep managed to screw my knob off just the other day, pretty sure it was a standard screwing action that I employed that day, either way it certainly worked and came off in my hand. Just make sure you grip it really hard.

I find it best when you get someone else to pull your knob off

You need to wind the bottom part of the knob down, so you can unscrew the knob itself, same principal as using 2 nuts to lock.

Hope that makes sense.

Thanks TT Tim, I did it, with the help of a grip wrench, or whatever it's called.

Using both hands helped too ;-)

TT Tim is that silver handbrake from Leven? Looks good...i need to replace the nasty black plastic one in mine...
