Starter motor probem

I had a starter motor burn out while I was driving along. the ignition relay is staying in and making the starter motor engaged while the engine is running. Have checked the start button,relays and its none of these, if I take out the relay after it has started everything is fine but the feed to the relay remains. Its a purple and red cable,can't trace where it goes. Can anyone help?
