Cracked manifold.

Just fitted a new drive shaft and anti roll bar bracket at the weekend.
It was a lovely sunny day outside this morning so off I went to the country roads for a test spin!

Everything was running great until I pulled over at a petrol station to top up my washers.
I got a large watering can full of water from the lady at the garage and when trying to fill the washer bottle it splashed all over the exhaust manifold causing the forward pipe on the left hand bank to crack!!

That'll teach me to be more carefull! Something to watch out for in future if anyone else is given a watering can, empty some out before trying to fill up the washer bottle.......as I should have done

Oh well, better go and price a new manifold!

You might be able to get it welded and say yourself a few quid. I had that done on my Chim'.

Bad luck! You could get it welded, but if too far gone I think ACT do a relacement manifold. Might be worth doing a search on past threads.

I'll have a look at welding it up.
It was only the one pipe cracked so I might be ok.

think APM do the coated versions with gtees.

How did you know it had cracked? Did you hear it? What does it sound like now?

Heard it a few minutes down the road from the petrol station, then I clicked on to what I had done!

Sounded awfull on tickover, as if the tappets had an inch clearance!!

But when accelerating it sounded like a WW2 spitfire!

Took the manifold off this afternoon and my friend is going to take it into work and weld it up for me tonight.

What a bugger of a job it was to get that thing off!
Took me all afternoon!
I certainly prefer working on my big ships diesel engines than these fiddley little things!

Mind you the cerbs a lot more fun to drive though
