Which engine have you got?

Hello all...

How can you tell (just by looking) which engine is in your Cerb? Reason I ask is; I was cleaning the engine bay up the other day and I thought to myself I really wouldn't know if it was a 4.5 or a 4.2 (apart from the v5 of course). However, I seem to remember someone saying that they had a 4.5 but that their v5 showed 4.2. Any info much appreciated.

4.2 engine.....


4.5 engine.....


4.2 has horizontal induction system and fuel rails visible, 4.5 has vertical induction with the infamous purple cross over pipes.

wow I never tire of pics like that, I love the way the air intake just confirms the cars "im going out to suck the white lines off the road and make a right noise doing it too!" intentions.....

That 4.5 has the later style cover. Sometime in 99 it was changed.

Interesting to see the silicone tubing round the aircon pipe Cyclone, top idea, I notice my cover has chaffed the pipe on mine, I used some tape but yours looks a better solution.

Hi Nick,

Whilst removing the cover I noticed that the air-con pipe was chaffing, so I used a small off cut of the silicone I was using when developing the Whirlwind pipes, it's held in place with a tie wrap, but looks ok and colour matches the pipes, plus it takes only takes a couple of minutes to do.

Actually that's a good point, the 4.5 front cover completely covers the fans so the air sucked through the rads is then blown down onto the road, wonder if that improves under bonnet temperatures? was as an improvement or merely to make the under bonnet area look cleaner from an aesthetic point of view?

Just before I bought mine I sent off for the potted history from TVR as the V5 showed 4.2 but I was sure mine was a 4.5. I contacted DVLA who said that when the car (the Cerbera in general) was first registered with them it was classed as 4.2 hence the V5 showing 4.2. I don't know if that has been changed since but mine is definitely a 4.5 although it shows only 4.2 on the V5. Unless of corse you have a Speed 6 in which case any 'V' is irrelevant. Perhaps their form should be renamed an S5
