Few months back my main beam stopped working. It turned out to be that all too common issue with the burnt out connector on the control box. Easy fix, opened unit, cut pin from board, soldered new wire direct to pin and connected to loom externally with bullet connectors. Job done.

Troouble is, it's started to do it again. Side lights and high beam are fine its just the main beam. They work sometimes, but they suddenly go off. Then later they can suddenly come on again. Checked control box and connectors, all seem ok.

Is there another weak point in the wiring where it could be burnt out again? I thought it could be a dodgy earth, but wouldn't that effect some other circuits too? Where should I be looking?

Hi,

I had this too. I've since rewired my headlights using a direct feed from the battery and larger cables. This is all switched by a couple of relays at the front of the engine bay that I added, one for dip, one for main. The original TVR wiring now just trips these relays, so has a much smaller load on it.

An added benefit is that by using better wiring, the voltage drop to the lights is reduced, and therefore they are brighter.

While I was there, used the same method for the cooling fans, which also means I can switch them on manually from inside the car.

If you want to pop round, we can try swapping some bits over, to see if we can work out where the fault lies.
