Just trial mounted my new PAS pump in the front of the car. Seems ok for now, need to sort some wiring though. Anyone know of a switched live feed within the engine bay?

Also got my new oil cooler in and my fancy new ACT coolant hoses. New swannecks being fab'd tomorrow so should be ready to fit on the weekend.

ps, no comments about the rust please.

Hmmm PAS pump sideways? Where's the filler cap then?

The wiper motors have an IGN switched feed (bizarrely!). On my previous car I determined which connection it was with a meter and used that to switch the relay that switched batt +ve to the pump.

I did post a whole thread about this, with pictures, in January, but the board seems to have lost it. and I can't find the pictures!

Hope that helps!

Ahhh super. Cheers.

Pretty sure the mounting isn;t going to make too much differences the fluid tank is above it all.

Will see what happens.

Is it the type of pump with a separate resevoir? Should be OK then. Some have integral resevoir with cap on top of the black dome.

You'll need to switch the pump through a decent relay, around 40A.

Yeah opted for the seperate res as this is only a tempory measure. I can keep the bulk of the pipes etc where they are so I can hook it all back up after.

So far it's cost the price of the pump off ebay about £60. Who said Cerb's are expensive.

You'll find it works better than the standard one too.

Mine felt great, for the one day I had it in before totalling the car!

I did mine a few weeks ago, mounted in a similar place. My pump is the one with the integral filler cap. I was able to 'adapt' (using hammer and vice) the Renault mounting plate too!

On the subject of wiring, I used a 180amp relay (overkill I know) with a switch fed from the radio DIN plug inside the car. I removed my stereo some time ago, as I never used it, and now use the DIN plug to feed an oil temperature gauge, an overide switch for the cooling fans, and a switch for the PAS. These are all fed from a lead that is live with the ignition.

I put in a switch for the PAS as sometimes you want the ignition on, but the pump not running, such as when setting up the car with the laptop.

PS Have you all removed the ZF mechanical pump from the back of the oil/water pump? Took me ages to get mine off!

Personaly i would take a d+ off the back of the alternator to pin 85 on a heavy duty relay, ground 86, heavy supply from battery fused to 87 and supply the pump with pin 30! that way the pump will run with the engine running and not flatten the battery with ignition on!
But a little warning " never trust an auto electrician with no eye brows " haha

pmsl

Was thinking how to fire it up with only the engine running. Was going to use the Oil Pressure switch as a trigger but realised that my light on the dash was but and wasn't sure what is causing that (could well be a dodgy sender).

I'll try the Alt trick then. cheers.

Thats a good idea! If I decide to get rid of my switch on the dash, I'll use this
