cracked sump

hi all, i have a tiny drip of oil everytime i leave the car over night, last night i changed the oil and filter, and when i put back the sump plug i found a tiny crack on the recess where it fits! then i could see that was my leak!
What sort of job is it to remove and repair?
Ive done 900 miles in it in 2 weekends and the handbrake cables snapped, i need 2 more toyos, the sump is cracked! what next?

Hi Lee, if its just a small crack, maybe you could patch it with some epoxy or similar, rather than removing the whole thing?

I used "liquid metal" on my station cars sump when the threads were stripped worked a treat.

If its aluminium then you might try cold aluminium welding. email me and I'll try to get an address for you.

Basically its a length of wire which you heat up to much less than aluminium melting point just with a convention blow torch, only a few secs and it seems to disolve into the aluminium and fix a joint. Works very well on bikes.

Via a drive over security bollard, I managed to surgically remove the sump plug and about an inch of surrounding sump with it.

I bought a replacement sump from Douglas Valley, but it was an engine out job to replace it.

Coincidentally, I dropped my car off at TVR Power last night & we got talking about my previous escapades....I could swear Jason mentioned that they've got a tool so that they can now replace the sump without removing the engine.

Might be worth a call.

get some BELZONA used in the oil industry good for all metals and heat properties used it to e-tread a m/c exhaust stud still going strong

hi all! beast has been up in the air all day, ive repaired the handbrake, drained off the oil and repaired the small crack with chemical metal(the tube stuff) and it dosnt leak a drop yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

hi kevin! the cable had pulled out of the bracket above the dif, so i modified it and put it back in ! then adjusted it a little, its working (ok the car would still role down the hill) but its working haha

I think they look better used, well that's my excuse anyhow, nothing to do with the fact that I'm a lazy ****

I keep trying to pick other peoples cars up when I go to collect mine, but Dom's having non of it.
