World Cup 2006

Like most of us, I dreamed as a boy of driving a sports car at high speed on straight and empty motorways and like some of us, to follow one of our national teams in an international competion. Both of of these I've done.
Well this year, I'll be able to do both on the same trip. Tomorrow, I set off on my WC adventure to Germany. The S6 has been serviced and polished, the match tickets are on hand and at 10.00 tomorow I'll be on the Ferry.
If anyone is interested, I'll send updates on how the car performs and, of course, something of the life of a travelling England fan in Germany.

At least you are going to have fun with your car and you can stay longer then the team if you got tickets to the next round 
I wish you a lot of great fun (my Cerbie loved it....); just a word of care also in Germany there is congestion (especially at a major event like this) and THERE WILL BE SPEED CONTROLS close to the big cities... Just take it easy and go a bit away from the masses- enjoy!

Well I made it to Frankfurt!! 430 miles on a tank and 1/4 of petrol, with the aircon on all the way (cool, but not cold), which is reasonable fuel use. The roads were mainly open, the only 'delays' being getting on the boat at Dover, with a one hour check in due to volume of travelling England fans and a border stop in Germany.
I took the Norfolk line to Dunkirk, only GBP 29 one way, nice new boat and virually no traffic getting out of the port and onto the freeway in France. All UK plated cars were stopped at the German border. The initial two guards soon increased to six, all admiring the car, plus a TV crew who were obviously there to film arrests and had nothing to do. Lot's of passing drivers also taking snaps on their camera phones and some positive comments from what I can only assume was a van load of Turkish asylum seekers.
I had a couple of encounters in Germany, a CLS, which I left for dead and a standard golf GTi likewise. I did have terrible trouble shaking off a highly customised Golf (had a roll cage inside and no markings on the car) and he eventualy gave up at 145, which I was quite happy about.
All in all a nice start to the trip and looking forward to England V Paraguay this afternoon.

On a general note how is the car working out? If I remember correctly you bought Nervy's didn't you and came to TVR's from a 996 (while that muppet you bought from was going the other way). Be interesting to hear how they compare one after the other.

Excellent thread, I'm going out for the first knock out match, staying in Ulm.
I'd be interested to hear what the touts are asking for the tickets.
In Portugal, they started off at 300 euros in the morning, but by kick off time, they were down to 75 euros.
PS if you get offered a "game 3" ticket (Stuttgart) at the right price, please let me know.

Not a great start to England's campaign, but it was a fabulous day all in all. The Stadium was fantastic, very good organsation and no trouble at all. After the game I went to the Fan Fest area by the river to watch Sweden V T&T (the BEST public screen I have EVER seen), after which to a bar to watch Argentine V Ivory Coast. After 12 hours of German beer, I retired to bed early (about midnight).

The whole of Frankfurt was packed with English supporters, in various states of disrepair.
I've now got a couple of days 'off' before going back to Frankfurt for Korea V Togo. I've driven up to Siegen on the German back roads and will visit the local TVR dealer in thys town tomorrow.

Sorry - Touching Cloth. Yes it's Nervy's old car. For me the fundemental ifference between the Cerbera and the 996 is a very simple one. The Porsche is like an F16. You sit in it and everything is taken care of, you simply steer it. The TVR is like a Spitfire, you have to hang on tight, keep a close eye on the dials, take care with every gear change and breaking distance - much more of a drivers car and sounds and performs way better than the 996, which I have in Hong Kong.

Sorry for the confusion FE, "game three" is the winner of England's group v the runner up in Germany's group, I'm off on the 24th for two nights.
How long are you there for ?

Anyway, consoled myself with some great football in the main square of the twon. I'm guessing that every town in Germany must have a big screen showing the matches, plus all the beer and sausages you can consume.
Today it's back to Frankfurt for Korea V Togo and then to Wurzburg, where I'll stay tonight, so I'm looking forward to a 'speedy' 250k drive today.

A 'mere' 180 miles on motorway today driving from Siegen to Wurzburg, via Frankfurt where I used my 'free' Korea V Togo tickets. Not a great match, but a very good winning goal.
A couple of bits of advice that I need:
- I filled up today with Shell V Power. When I took a second look at the octane rating it was 100!! Will this be OK or do I need to mix in some lower octane?
- When I checked the dip stick (as soon as I had stopped, so the engine was hot), it was just above the Minimum level. I added one litre of Mobil 1 and now it's over Maximum, what do I do about that??

The owners book Say's a minimum Ron of 98, it doesn't mention a maximum....In past threads, people have mentioned how well the car's have run on the 100 Ron version, so I think your alright on that one.

Well a result in Nurenburg for England, if not a good performance. The following day I drove 140 miles to Stuttgart, 116 of whiuch were on the autobahn (116 miles in less than 1 hour), top speed 150 mph, above which 'I bottled'. Things come up dammed fast at that speed and the engine was screaming.
I watched the Holland V Ivory Coast in the stadium and the next day Italy V USA with 25,000 Italians in the Stuttgart Fan Fest, which is one of the best I've been to so far.
Now I'm in Munich, another 140 miles on from Suttgart, in 1 1/2 hours and going to the Brazil V Australia match tonight.
