Argh another PAS pump down.

Yep, my nice new electric PS pump has just fried within 10 mins of plugging it all in.

Great! 5 days to Lemans and I'm 1 PAS pump and 1 coolant pipe short of a running car....

Why did you use an electric one? cant you buy genuine any more? and how did you manage to burn it out?

Because changing the main one is and engine out job apparently.

No idea, plugged it in and it fried.

Was S/H though.

Depends where you egt it from. Ebay is a good source.

New £300+ I think, refurbed for £170 but you need a bust one to exchange.

Then the relay, fuse holder and a bit of wiring on top.

You can get the pump off without removing the engine, I've done it. I did need to loosen off the drivers side engine mount and jack the engine up a little bit.

The woodruff key had sheared on mine and damaged the drive on the pump. It was fixable, but frankly after struggling for hours to take it off, I was more motivated to install an electric one. Apparently the earlier cars were prone to this.

I don't know whether the other electric PAS converts have removed their old mechanical pump, but I would've though it was a good idea to.....

Don't know, but its a ZF part driven from the back of the oil/water pump. Its the only bit that can be removed while on the car.

Don't know about the original but the electric one is a Peugot/Citroen. Details in the Equivalent Parts sticky thread.
