Help PLEASE!!!!!
Discussion
My Cerbie has just gone in for its service and a couple of bits done costing me a nice £1700!!, was told over the phone by garage that slave cylinder is leaking, ( a bit) I nearly died when they told me the cost to repair it!! With gearbox and bellhousing needing to come out to get to it, Could anyone tell me if it is just a myth that you are able to get to the slave cylinder via cutting a hole down into the drivers foot well????????? Cos im thinking of doing it after the price they quoted me!!!!! ALSO......could anyone let me know how i would go about getting the ECU upgrade?? Thanks Chris

In fact just use the search facility and enter the word "slave" or "Clutch" then you will know everything there is to know about cerbera clutches! including much you didn't want to know!

ARe you using a recommended indie? Then you have surety that you are getting best value!
As for ECU - what model have you got? The basic options are:-
APM does a red rose chip - I think this is the cheapest option. Isnt really a power cheap more of a best avail map to ensure good running and less likely to run badly at 3000 revs.
Then Joospeed (trackcar)
and Austec.

Also dependent upon the age of the car is the size of the bell housing - the small 1 is no longer available. I agree on the comment about the suitability of the Garage.
I had my ECU remapped by Austec BTW.

Edited to say: Looking @ your profile perhaps David Batty might be a good person to call.

Hi Thanks for all replies!! I picked up car yesterday morning, the final bill came to £1584.19!! They have done all the bits they said they would but were unable to find and correct a slight misfire that happens underload which they detected once they had done all other bits to it, They checked it wasn't electrical and now the next stage is to check compression, but, i brought the car home and it will go back down to them ('exeter' way!!) shortly for further investigation. As regards to the slave cylinder they have none in stock and are unable to locate one at present, I asked them about changing the clutch at the same time, -do two jobs in one- and they said if the clutch didn't need doing don't do it!!! So I shall have a think about what to do regarding that!!! Maybe someone would have the answer or could help me on this question!!-prior to buying the car, which i only purchased end of April, looking back at all the paper work that came with it, It only had a new slave cylinder done last year 4000 miles ago, SURELY they don't wear that quick DO THEY???????? I did ring up the garage that did it and they were as helpful as a wet tea towel, saying basically it was over six months ago and thats that!!! Great thanks very much!!!! So, maybe someone could let me know the EXPECTED life of the slave cylinder!!!
But......all said and done i love the car and couldn't beat it

Misfire?
What did they change during your service? ie was it just plugs on the ignition side of things? Before compression tests there are all kinds of things that need checking - and you need to make sure they are done before spending money on a compression test?!
Taking a car into a garage *without* a misfire then leaving the garage *with* would leave me with a few choice words for the garage to be honest...
Dont panic, get it to a specialist, it could save you a few £'s
