I can smell fuel :(

I've just been out in the car today to pick the kids up from school, About 2mile's each way, and could smell petrol. 
I've lifted the bonnet, and looked around under the car using my pit, checked as best as I could the fuel pump/filter, and under the engine, but nothing. The only place I did think I could smell it, apart from whilst driving, was in the boot. But that could have been my empty fuel can.
Anyone got any idea's where else to look??

Mark...check fuel vent pipe isnt blocked/kinked. May be venting back trough filler cap?

My fuel tank does pop occasionaly, which is apparently a sign that the breather pipe is blocked. And that would explain why I can smell it in the boot.

Mark, check the hose between the filler cap and the tank itself, I smelt fuel for ages and couldn't trace it then one day I opened the boot and the filler cap was floating loose.

Thanks Tim, Just been checking that, it looks ok.
Does anyone know where the fuel feed pipe leaves the tank?
I can see the return but cant see the feed pipe.

The fuel pump is in the passenger rear wheelarch attached to the frame low down so the fuel pipe is routed to there. Shouldn't be difficult to trace back. Dunno about breather pipe

Yes I found that, there are two units there, one I presume is the pump and the other a filter.
There is a small pipe coming throught the body to one of these units, I believe this is the feed. From the other unit there is another pipe that goes to the tank up near the filler, this i'm assuming is the breather.
All the pipes look to be ok, and none of the banjo bolts appear to be leaking either.

I had this and eventually traced it to a split flexible pipe near close to where it joined the fuel rail. It was difficult to spot because the leaked fuel evaporated almost immediately.

Just had the very same thing on arrival at Boulogne yesterday, plenum and base off, trim hose from another section - (thankfully customs neglected to confiscate that knife) replace split section and on our way again within hald an hour - minus nigh on 3/4 of a tank of fuel.
