my 4.2 stinks! I use my cerb daily and i`ve noticed it smells of hot oil as if it`s been thrashed.Even when i`ve just driven it normally for a few miles.is this right.
Check for even the slightest leak that could be dripping onto the manifolds...even a few drops will smell quite bad!...fav place for a leak is the breather pipe, located under the drivers side air box on a 4.5...not sure if same place for a 4.2...
Mine drips a bit from the back of the gear box. Only a tiny amount, but it runs along a heat shield and drips onto the ehaust somewhere in the area of the diff. This causes a wiff of smoke to come out of the rear wheel arches. If you stop facing forward on a downward slope, the smoke comes out around the handbrake instead!
Going to the garage soon to stop this, I hope...

Mine did exactly the same. The front seal on my diff was leaking and oil was finding it's way onto the exhausts. Not a pleasent smell burning diff oil but a new seal stopped this alltogether.
