100 Amp fuse

Is the 100A fuse just for the starter, or are electricals connected via it? I have a problem with the starter and I am looking at how to diagnose the problem.

Tried a search, which had lots of top tips, but not this bit!

100amp fuse seems to cause a number of problems with electrics...and although usually looks ok, it tends to get a hairline fracture which goes un noticed....(I always carry a spare in the boot, as you never know when it'll be needed!)

Have you got any photos of where it goes as i'm planning a long continental trip and want to be able to replace it if it goes. Of course to do that i'm keen to know where it is......

Its situated under a plastic cover at the rear of the engine above the starter motor!...You'll need to remove the panel that covers the bulkhead/wiperarms/battery/etc/etc to get to it...a torch and long thin arms or a magnetic screw driver to remove/replace the two retaining screws!

As far as I can tell, I just get a gentle whirring when I try to start the car. It's not the fuel pump, but a secondary noise, just at the point that I would expect the starter to kick the engine over. I guess that means I am probably getting power to the motor but that the clutch isn't engaging?

sounds like your starter motor is stuffed!

That's pretty much where I had got to!

Are there any issues with bump starting a Cerb? I know they can be a little sensitive sometimes!

The 100Afuse is in the main feed to the fuse box, when it breaks down you will get all manor of weird faults. The starter should get its main power directly from the battery and is switched on via its solenoid, so if you hit the start button and the motor just spins then there is a good chance you are suffering from the usuall knackered starter solenoid.

i was told by my local mechanic not to bump start it becuase it will knacker the clutch, not sure how true this is but when my starter motor died i wasnt willing to try to find out and ended up getting a re-con one which works perfect now (touches wood)
