TOO MUCH OIL

Any symptoms likely to arise from too much oil.
Am jacking up at the moment to drain a bit off, but was just wandering?

Increased wear resulting from the oil being frothed (air bubbles) by the crank.

Not much use unless you're stripping the engine, sorry.

i was thinking of running a separate breather insted of it venting to the air box
anybody done this yet

too much oil can mess you seals up as the might be overpressurized the engine should vent on the crank and heads really that way you don't build up any pressure

Too much oil results in....

Reduced power due to increased windage from oil being flung around and the crank being slowed by the oil.

Increased aeration (frothing) caused by the crank hitting the oil.

Increased heat caused by the friction and the fact that the oil is aerated.

This can result in reduction in oil pressure, which in turn can cause increased wear to sufaces within the engine.

The breater into the air box is to recirculate any blow by back into the combustion cycle, its a bit of an eco thing, you know, a bit like throwing neat petrol into the exhaust on overrun
