Is this old news - A new V8 from a very well known high profile manufacturer - designed by another equally well know bike firm.

Bugger - Both - Anyone know the size of it in the XC90 V8 out soon - will it need blowers like the Show car they did that had 600bhp?

Mine you even 400 would be good (an honest 400) as they never had this before as std.

Can't remember off hand but I think it's 4 or 4.4 (something like that)

I understand that it's been substantially down tuned for the Volvo but it's transversely mounted.

All IIRC.

Autocar, today, mentions NS being spotted on a recent trip to Ford's Bridgend plant looking at Jag's V8. Volvo and Jag both Ford so who knows? probably not even TVR...

This is bad news - with an engine such as the LS7 available, with such epic power and reliability, I just can't see a 4.0 or 4.4 V8 Jag engine giving the Cerb 2 the crushing performance it will need to compete these days.

Bit of info for ya

It's their marine division, Corvette used GM Voltec to develop their engines as they have a tougher testing process and you have to admit the LS series engines are damn efficient. if Volve are to produce V8s for TVR they might use Volvo Penta which should produce a powerful and reliable lump.

The Volvo V8 was (at least) conceptually designed by Yamaha and it is very oversquare with 94mm bore and 79.5mm stroke. This means potentially very big valves for the displacement and the short stroke gives the potential for high revs. With the right treatment this engine could be a real screamer!

My concerns are that Volvo do tend introduce a lot of charge motion in the ports, which speeds up combustion but reduces overall air flow and therefore power. Also because it is 60 degree bank-angle V8 the crankshaft may have split crankpins to achieve 90 degree firing (bit like the Ford Taurus SHO V8 that it's rumoured to be based on), if so they must ditch it and put a flat-plane crank in which will be lighter and stronger.

Jag engine - my hearing is this is a separate new design via Yam for Volvo - Even though Ford own Jag and Volvo. TRANSVERSE in the XC manybe - BUT PLEASE tell me not in a Cerb replacement - Laughable. 4.4 even the non-detuned version (like another car maker will get a higher spec before a Ford company - that will not happen!) will not be enough. Christ and all those cams, valves, belt to go wrong - more moving parts. I will not dwell on the LM win on Sunday!

- The Russian know nothing.

God my spelling never improves! Alway difficultto bring an engine back - and real 400+bhp AJP would be great (ha they could claim 450!) - but federalised engine is what they need andthe ECU stuff / induction gubbins on the AJP is years out of dat now compared to what the big manufactures have (and even after market now) so on that alone they would struggle - might be ok on the 2v heads (as the LS is the same) but alot down to the back combustion chamber design that cam with the lump in the first place - they will not want to re-engineer and old lump - Smolenski just want to buy it in (nothing wrong with that).

SP6 is a great engine but not enough power for the Cerb and lacks torque and is it easily federalised (cash!).

Volvo option sounds good if they can have a high power version - but where should they do that fo a small company as a Huge investment in cam and ecu timing for a big manufacturer and they they will not let them just slap a blower on it (as not done like that in the cars it is going in - at least not first off).
