Clutch - Good news and bad news
Discussion
Looks like we may well have a resolution to the clutch issue for people with early style clutches. I will confirm more on Tuesday when the part is in the hands of the garage however the bad news is for all the people who have spent a forune upgrading to the new style already when all the time the clutch looks like it is actually readily available for another car.
Some sort of Porsche. I don't want to jump the gun or take any credit for this, the garage the car is at has done all the work locating this new clutch. I won't name them yet as undoubtedly they will get a flood of phone calls then.
Once they have the clutch and are absolutely certain its one and the same then I'll reveal all. It does sound likely though as it is an AP clutch with exactly the same part number. I'm also not certain if this is just a stock of old clutches that someone has lying around or if they are available to buy from AP still.

Thing is there can't be many cars left with the early clutch, the current shortfall isn't helped of course by the fact that the new cars ( tuscans et al) use the same clutch as the late cerb one and they STILL haven't fitted a slave cylinder end-stop so they still break
Good effort all the same

Dont get me started on clutches!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have been waiting nearly a month now for a new clutch, car in bits, been looking at every alternative I can think of without a great deal of success.
Dave at Autocraft says he can supply an upgraded version of old style clutch for around the 800 mark, I was tempted to go down this route but thought it may take longer than waiting for the new style ones to start coming through, been hearing next few days for a couple of weeks now FFS!!!! even wrote to TVR
Thank you for your email. I am sorry that you are experiencing difficulties in purchasing a clutch.
I have spoken with the purchasing director who informs me that we are due a delivery from AP within the next week. I will keep your details on file and contact you as soon as they arrive.
have also been dealing with a motor sports company who say might be able to spec. up an alternative racing clutch if someone has an original "new style" clutch and can interpret engineering drawings here are the links to APs own resources:
You can get the details here.
www.apracing.com/car/race/dataselect.asp
Click on a size that is the drive plate diameter
Click on an individual part number and you get something like what is here:-
www.apracing.com/car/drawings/cp4560_1cd.pdf
If you click on the installation drawing for an individual clutch, you get something like this.
look here.
www.apracing.com/car/drawings/cp4560_1cd.pdf
Perhaps you can check to see what is similar, without sending us a clutch.
The major points to check, are bolt hole PCD and number of holes, set up height, torque capacity and whether the cover is designed to accept drive plates with cushion springs.
So that's my contribution, Cerbfan keep us posted.
if anyone can make any use of the above info be my guest.

Hi Guys,
Excuse the blatant plug but...I am currently trying to sort out another clutch that should outlast and outperform the std ap item.
We are talking with the suppliers now, and are expecting some good news shortly.
I know that this isnt much use to the people who are off the road now but hopefully we can sort this issue out once and for all!!!
