Hello,
My tyres are about ready for renewall, the rears a bit more worn than the fronts.
Currently on Toyo's, have managed to get nearly 11 thousand miles out of them so not bad, though they have definatl;y gone off a bit, and prone to sliding abouta bit more than you would expect. Though not dangerously so.
My question is can I go up to a 40 on the back? or is it best to stick with the 35?
The reason I ask is this, the dreaded third gear problem for 1/4 mile running. If they fit then the extra size would maybe make the car run on a little bit more.
Probably going for Pirelli pzero nero's, £146 fronts £168 rear's fitted from Leigh tyres. What do you think?

I also found that the Toyos went off at the end of their legal tread and were sliding even on track days when hot. I came by a set of newish SO3s and put them on to get me legally on the road, I've had them before but found them too hard at the time, the wall being stiffer. However they are fantastic with my current GAZ set up which has significantly higher rated springs (500 and 400) but less damping. I was on AVOs and Nitrons before and the car felt less planted with the SO3s. The question is therefore which tyre for which set up?
Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD 3's are superb as an all rounder (factoring in grip/wear rate and noise)! Just put them on the Cerb a few weeks ago! Didin't even consider Toyos as had them on my first Cerb and didn't like them!
As with other posts on this subject, it is all very dependant on everyones own opinions/experiences. I'd also suggest you get an opinion from your local tyre dealer as to the best options!

You know what, I sorta forgot about it.
Yes they can sort it diff or gearbox, may take a run over soon, will keep you posted.
Though the chap there said "Can't you just put bigger tyres ?" so that's why I asked about fitting a 40, do you think it will fit? as the owners handbook specs that size, all beit Bridgestones.

Bigger tyres increase weight on the rear end, more weight adds more stress on the pencil-shafts.
Toyos are sticky tyres yes, but they do go quick, soft compound and all.
Goodyear GDS3's are a good comprise between soft and not too soft you know what I mean.
But, when fitting these all round, you will notice that your ride will pull into the highway grooves due to the ingenious straight cut directional grooves.
I'd suggest get a set of Vreidstein Ultracs put on. You're running spiders so you cant go too wide sadly. So 255/40/18 on the rears and 245/35/18 on the front.
Obviously the best for drag-racing is slicks with as soft a compound as possible with plenty of squat, but MT's and 15" drag alloys are off your list? - so maybe keep the Toyos for the strip, get a set of light cheapy 18'inchers and bang the used toyo's on them. Always best to have solid strong tyres for the road and something soft to play around with on track/strip.

I had a mare with these they were ok in the wet no problems there but I found them the worst tyre I've tried on the cerb. I still use Toyos up front with the Bridgestones RE050s on the rears. If I can't get the bridgestones I'd buy Goodyear GSD3s!
Only my opinion from my own experience.
