Urgent help needed!

Hi,
Can someone please post a photo or give details of the wiring config. for the little black box that sits on top the fuel tank, (extreem right) it's the one that has six seperate spade connectors. I have been told this box acts as some kind of resistor and lights the headlights on low beam.
Electrics and me is not a good mix.
Had to unplug all the connectors as the box was getting very hot.

that is the dim/dip switching relay unit (solid state relays I believe)

It should have a connector block on it so it sounds as though yours has had problems once before.

DOn;t know if this is any help.



Also any iffy connections on supply voltage will cause funny goings on with this unit. Ensure that all connections are well made. I have directly soldered onto two of the pins inside the box to get around the corroded terminal issue.

Ridds, thanks mate, did that connector come from the box to the right in the pic?

The box it came from was the Dim/Dip headlight control box. Not sure if there is another box that controls the headlights on the tank. I thought there was only the one.

I can check tonight.

There's a couple of boxes with connections that burn out. The Dim/Dip box plus the one the controls main and dip beam. You can get the 16A relays used on the PCB from Maplins if needed. Only in a TVR would an electrical fire above the petrol tank be a TADTS problem.

The box in question definatly has six individual male spades, which are coupled with individual insulated female spades, not akin to any multiplug, the box is of a different design to all the others, it has a dull finish on the plastic wheras all the boxes with TVR lables are a shiney finish. also this box doesn't have the rounded corners which all the others have.
Hope someone else has one of these as i'm off to Le Mans classic in the morn.

damn n blast, its still gets red hot when connected, when disconnected all the lights etc work fine, doh!, but still not sure what it does and if it's important, anyone got a spare? between Manchester and Newhaven, sailing a 17.30 tomorrow.

The dim dip box puts a low voltage into the dipped beam when the sidelights are on.

If you put relays on the dip and main beam wires with a fused feed direct from the battery (to avid burning out the lighting control box) the dip relays chatter like crazy when the side lights are on.
You have to disconnect dim dip pin 6 IIRC to stop the low voltage feed down the dip wiring.

If the lights work fine without it then leave it disconnected.

thanks for the info. so far no problems with the box disconnected, currently in Potiers, and over 1000 miles trouble free, on the way to Milau tomorrow to meet up with Griff4.0 and onto the Pyranees. Also managed a few laps at le Mans (B*lls Out) it was amazing, will post some pics when i get back next Monday.
