think its a advance and retard thingy

we have had a good look around the cerb and think there may be missing pipe that should be going to the advance and retard if there is one where does the pipe come from and what sort of pipe because thats why the car may be driving like a bag of poo

These cars do not have a vacuum operated mechanical advance, they have electronically mapped ignition.

i will post a pic in a mo and then use lot can help hopefully.Its directly in the middle of the engine,set near to the back,its circular,and has a nozzle which looks as if it needs a pipe on there,we are not to sure but that may be the answer to our gliches

Fuel pressure regulator, used to compensate fuel rail pressure with regards to manifold depression.

That does rather look like the back of a fuel pressure regulator. The regulator has a spigot on it which can be connected to the manifold vacuum to vary the fuel pressure as the manifold pressure goes up and down, or left open to fresh air to give constant fuel pressure. Jusging from the corrosion that one's been left disconnected for some time and my guess would be that it was supposed to run constant fuel pressure. If you want to find out for sure, talk to a TVR dealer/specialist. That's also the best way to resolve any running problems you have with it, unless you're familiar with the car and experienced at diagnosing engine problems.
