New ohlins finally get me through the £9k barrier

Yep, in the last twelve months, two services, head gaskets, and a new set of ohlins have got me over the magic £9000 mark.
I've got to laugh about it or I'll cry.
On the plus side, the clutch I had fitted (not included in the £9k) has lasted almost 17 months / 7000 miles, but alas that too is now considering joining the other various faulty components gathering in my shed (not the car, a wooden one in the garden)
With a trip to Italy planned for next Thursday, the air con has sprung a leak in the radiator & the gear change has become "notchy", most likely to be some clips between the clutch plates (apparently), good job I've got the missus's 97 £400 Metro to rely on.
I'd love to get everything fixed on the car so I can sell it, but in three years I've never quite managed it
, every time something gets fixed another fault appears.
I guess me & the car are destined to be together till death us do part, I know Cerb's aren't fetching much at the moment, but with the running costs, I'm considering giving it away for free.
But, in a "victor Meldrew" type scene, I can just imagine the car re appearing on my drive.
Please tell me it's going to get better, sob, sob

erm, best bet is to stop counting, then you'll never reach the 10k mark!
Don't make the mistake of selling it though, once they're sorted by someone who knows what they're doing, they tend to be fine (excluding the usual crappy clutch, starter motor, wiper box, clutch cylinder issue)

Im amazed you've had that many problems with it! Ours seems to throw a fit every two and a half years, then its fine for ages... we're six years into our ownership now, thats got to say something?!!
I really should look up our costs, dads got everything logged, but not on here. Doubt they are that scary though... but its always been looked after by the God of Cerberas.
Just laugh at any bill heartily and say "Is that your best shot... pussy", write out the cheque and walk away with a smile on your face. Once home, and in a quiet place with no-one watching cry loudly for exactly one minute - no more and no less. Once finished resume life until next repair.

I never quite said that... When asked "has anything gone wrong with it?" Dad now replies "Everything" and will show the current little niggle to whoevers asking. I think its party trick at the moment is that the door realease wires through the hinge part of the door are broken... so it only works occaisionally when shut, but perfectly when even remotely open.
But god I love that car!!
Russ... try motorclimate in brum for aircon stuff... 01217665006. Near the Blues ground. They've had our cerb in before for a new condensor, though we supplied the condensor through ebay
- they charged relatively little to fit and regas the whole system. They know the Cerbera because of our car, if you do go there - tell them Dr Allans son recommended you!! They'll give me a b*llocking when I go there next for sending more odd cars their way, they hate my smart LOL! The only thing they always forget to do is connect the air sensor(?) by the intake - so dont be alarmed when they tell you the MIL light is on. No connection to them other than a repeat customer in various cars! Always professional and I dont worry about leaving the Cerb in thier hands.
Sorry to hear this mate, have you got the car back, not seen it on the drive for a while? One conselation, I have a set of standard shocks in my garage you can willingly take to Italy with you, just incase the Ohlins fail. No seriously, all the very best mate, wish I was coming with you, would love a decent continental drive in Her not done one since Germany last year.

hhmmmmTa for that BCA, my friend recommended that company as well, I've seen one on ebay at a company in Bolton (£110 delivered), I'm presuming that's the same company.
Paul, the ohlins feel good, I've chucked in to any bend I can find so far & it just goes where I point it, my old AVO's were a bit solid & seemed a tad "skittish". Also there was an annoying rattle on hard bumps that I put down to the exhaust, but it must have been the old shocks. The car used to rattle my teeth when I hit a pot hole or even a raised drain for that matter, and I needed to soften the ride up (missus has had a neck operation & the thought of her whining for 2000 miles made the £1645 for the shock sound cheap)
If anyone's ever considering Ohlins & wants to try my car, please feel free to ask.

Hi Simon, the car's back at the mo, you may have missed it in the mornings as I've been going to the gym, I've been battering a punch bag with a picture of my car on it. Regards the holiday (if my clutch holds out), Paul from Luxembourg (who kept me in the bar till 3am at CREAM 2005) is meeting me in Reims on my way back from Italy. We're having a "French cerb " meeting on Friday 28th, stopping at the Holiday inn, everyone's welcome... champagne & Cerbs... does life get any better

Actually old Raf Dug appears to be highest per mile, might be skewed slightly by short ownership I guess.
