Engine out

This weekend i'm going to remove the engine from the Cerb, Can anyone give me tips or tricks gained from removing their own before i start. I'm used to working on v8's etc, just never on a Cerb.

i would suggest taking as many digital pics of pipe routings, electrical stuff etc that you can.

also you can never have too many cardboard boxes to put nuts / bolts in etc and label them up properly so you know exactly where they come from.

you'll also need a engine crane with a very long arm or a proper overhead gantry as the cerb is a wide car and the engine is a loooong way back.

other than that you pretty much undo anything that looks connected to the engine

If your going to have to split the engine and gearbox, then remove individually, watch out for the plastic sleeve on the gear lever assembly . You can reach up and feel the two bolts hold the gear lever assembly together. Once removed, you'll find they have a plastic sleeve which the bolts pass through. You need to remove the sleeves that are in the bolt holes.

For my 2p, I'd drop the engine and gearbox as one from below the car.

Inspect them with a view to fitting different engine mounts and putting an LS in? or just inspecting them...

Do you have to remove the gear stick before dropping the box down ( removed the knob )

if you go under the car and lower the rear of the box down you can get to the bolts locating the lever to the tailshaft housing

Well the engine is ready to be lifted out, What a tight squeeze, took the manifolds off first,can't get the drivers side one out, i'll pull that out when i,m lifting the engine. chassi rails are in good condition.I'm going to try and lift the engine and box out together,if i've got enough height to swing the gearbox down. so not a bad six hours work. beats working !

It's out!!! 2 Broken clutch fingers and one cracked manifold, not bad for 27,000 miles, going to get the gearbox checked whilst its out (see if it can take the extra Uumph!!!) The new engine is ready for installing so should get it in next week. Thanks joo for all the tips i needed them. Any for reinstalling ?

Its still an AJP but with little extensions to the block
