staying with the cerb and cebera cooling chip

I have just been out with the wife and looked at 2003 merc SL, 2000 porsche 911, bm3 m3 and a nissan 350z as i like the look of them. I think im gona have to stay with the Cerbera!!! this is my second cerbera and is a particularly good looking one. Nothing gives me the same buzz! wifes not happy thought lol.
To keep me happy with the cerb though i want to mod it a bit.
I have seen these chips you can get to change in the ECU so the fans come on quicker, as it makes me chringe when im sitting in traffic and the temp keeps going high. has anyone used one of these chips? any good?
I may change the sports exhaust as i do seriously think its damaging my hearing lol, so looking for a standard exhaust. any sellings.
Really hope to get some feed back on the chip!!!!!! As my garage Leven are a little bit unsure about them.

I have the new esttings within my ECU, and I have recently had the TVR club track day at Brands, incidently one of the hottest days of the year.
The car was rock solid, temp did not go over 90 ish all day.
What Joolz has done is switch the fans on earlier, keeping the overall engine temp loweer.Not to mention the start up settings, talk to him.
Trust me it makes a load of difference,try it.

Dan, the modded chip is fantastic, have sat in some 10 - 15 minute almost static jams in current temperatures with no problems, definitely recommended.
As for exhaust, its not the sports pipes that cause the heat, its the flippin cats, there packed in the bottom of the transmission tunnel, main reason why gearbox gets cooked resulting leaking oil seals. Oh yes and its a good way to start a bush fire if you park on grass longer than about 3 inches.
I keep hearing about modded chip for fans, but it does make me uncomfortable.
Having your fan on is not an answer to the cerb overheating problem.
A car should not require a fan on continously to maintain the temperature. In that circumstance you are always only one fuse away from disaster.
Okay in a long hot stationary line of traffic there is very little choice, but is that really the problem you are talking about?

Another vote for the cooling chip!
I installed mine a little while back as the final stage in an overhaul and upgrade of the cooling system. No problems since, and I have endured a couple of long queues since. Temp rises to 95 degrees indicated (probably over reading by 5-10 degrees) then drops away again as fans come on, even when stationary on a hot day. Worth every penny. The only question is why the hell the standard setup switches the fans on so late.

Yup - Whats the Radtech solution?
I pick my cerbera up tonight so I'll obviously know more in the future, but is there an alternative radiator? If cooling is the problem, is there a larger radiator or one with more cores that will fit?
I had a local company make one for my modified capri that had an extra two rows of cores that was only slightly wider than the original.

Julian, the chip isn't there to get around an otherwise overheating engine .. it's only functions are to prevent the wild temperature swings of the std TVR set-up (it operates over a smaller temperatue window) , to pervent the big temperature build up before the fans become operational, and to help circulate hot air out of the engine bay by cycling their action more frequently.
The chip *isn't* there to cover up an otherwise underperforming cooling system. In hot summer weather though the chip's good for the car and good for the driver's heart rate

I think you just said wot I was trying to say. Gee this julian psychic things working well.
replacing the chip is easy - ensure you have standard chip in the car already (ie mine had a 'RR' chip as per writing on it on a white sticky)
removing chip is easy ie pull but be careful to lift and not lever out (or bend pins of old chip).
When fitting new chip you will get a diagram from joolz. This shows how to seat it (ie can go in one of 2 ways - one is wrong !)
When seating it I found it best to insert one sides pins first and to then use a small flat head scredriver to gently push the pins from the other side into their female counterparts (ie yuo have the chip resting in place and with the pins almost ready to plop in and you just nudge them in).
Easy peasy !

If you are going anywhere near an ECU or a EPROM chip. Get an earth strap from Maplins and earth yourselfe before touching anything.
It is a wrist band with either a plug on it or a crocodile clip.

You big girly woosey. I often play with electronics while sitting in my plastic jeans on my shagpile carpet. Never had a problem yet, and for all my sartorial mistakes a girly arm band isn't going to be added.
