Cat piss smell in Cerbera, is this common?

Hi,

I had a test drive today in a '99 4.2, when the windows were closed it smelt a bit like a cat had pissed in the car. A friend of mine said it's quite common for Cerbera's to leak water into the car making the carpets damp. Is this true or could the owner really keep cats in his car?

Dunno what cat piss smells like but more often than not i can smell the fibreglass, if you've ever been in a boat its the same smell, lovely

It's possibly letting in rain water from the sealant which is a cheap fix.

Mine smelt like this when i first bought it. The previous owner had kept it garaged for seven years & the carpets were in perfect nick.

The smell went after I'd had the car for a month.

I've had various leaks over the last three years & the only time that smell returned was when the car had been off the road for sometime & was probably dry.

That doesn't explain anything does it ?

In conclusion, my theory is a lack of fresh air getting in to the car

Alan - check the diff isn't leaking - used diff oil has a horrid smell not dissimilar to what you are describing.

Sometimes aircon can have a bad smell. Don't know if this smells of cat p1ss but it might be the problem.

LOL, you should test drive my car! My cats not only piss on it but they sleep on it and in it!!

Hateful creatures, bought a bullmastiff and problem seems to have gone!!

Only problem is now the pawprints on the bonnet are MASSIVE..

I had my cats removed - smells fine, sounds better

Could be!
I had a Xantia that used to stink of cat's piss every time you switched on the aircon. Cooled the car great, but jeeeeeezus what a stink!

My current Xantia doesn't! But then it's a taxi, so there's probably other smaells in it to mask the cat's piss!
