jacking up the rear(oh ello!!)

no the car is it a no no to jack the car up using the diff ??(i know i know but i had to ask)where the best place as i want to do my drop link's and looking underneath its not that great apart from the tube before the diff or the diff,as i need to jack it up centrally really any under car pics would be nice aswell

Don't use the Diff, its only suspended by 3 mounts!!! Use scissor jacks on the outrigger legs, where the support strut attaches just in front of both rear wheels. Don't use the centre of the outriggers, they don't have enough support there chassis wise. I got by by winding up each side a few turns at a time, thereby raising both sides at the same time give or take a few cm. Then, if you're going to work under the car, support it with axle stands as appose to the scissor jacks........

1 Jack and a pair of axle stands, is better IMHO.

so can i jack up a side at a time(in the right place) or does it have to be done both sides together??? as i have a jack and axle stands already saves me buying 2x scissor jacks

Don't forget to check how low the jack goes before you buy it. I've got two trolley jacks and neither fit below my Cerbera. I've had to make a couple of wooden ramps to drive the wheels onto so it raises the car enough for my jack to go under.

Costco do a 3-ton jack - 89mm minimum height, £55+VAT.

My jack fits under ok, but if not just drive the wheels onto a couple of bricks or planks of wood to give the clearance.
I jack up one side then the other, but only enough to get the stands under, then i'll go side to side (if you know what I mean!!) if I need it higher.

cheers guys i bit the bullet jacked up one side,axle stand then the same the other side(i must lose some weight lol)changed my drop links for new LEVEN s/s rose jointed ones jobs a good un all back down had a measure of my CATS and noticed the diff is leaking a bit DOH!!!!!
