windscreen wipers stop working - help!

Hi,

Wonder if anyone out there can help - driving into work this morning and cerbie's windscreen wipers stop working - squirters still work but no movement from the wipers themselves.

i checked the control boxes in the bach, but none of these are labelled as wiper box, however - two of the boxes are not labelled at all.

Also - does anyone know what the fuse layout - number for this wipers - my handbook is at home, and I am not! 8-)

Had this on mine twice,
looking at the car from the front, take off the battery cover bit (two alen bolts).
you should be able to see the wiper motor, on the left hand side of it yo should see a small block connector.
Give this a clean with contact cleaner and see if that helps, did for me.
Another option is rain X, oh and keep above 70 as any water beads away nicely.

already tried - and no joy - connector block all ok.

The wiper control box is in the footwell, next to the ecu. You can also check the steering wheel buttons control box by holding down the wiper+ wipe/wash buttons together and then pressing full beam and then letting go of all the buttons. If the main beam stays on then that box is ok. The fuse is no 7* (on mine anyway) and it also runs the mirrors so if they are working, the fuse is ok.

* not necessarily the same for all cerbs

So now have the opposite problem.

Checked the connector behind the motor for the wipers - and the connection dropped away hanging loose from the motor - now the windscreen wipers just continually stay on, and cant switch them off (Altho the speed variation happens) arrrgghhhh

Anyone got any ideas on this one??

First off pull them off the windscreen, put the wipers on by pressing appropriate button and then work them by hand, sometimes this is all it needs to get them going again. If so, clean your windscreen and always make sure plenty of moisture on screen else it may happen again, but at least you'll know the quick fix.

but the problem isnt that they wont start, its that I cannot turn the wipers off now - they just continually go......

anyone know which relay powers them - is it a possible relay problem?

Check all your fuses in the boot. This happened to me once, very annoying I know, and a few minutes later the radio died too..... Turned out a fuse in the boot had gone, can't remember which one, but worth a look......

all fuses ok - all connectors ok... am really stuck now... only way windscreen wipers are stopping is by unplugging the control box in the passenger footwell

Check the Ribbon Cable in the Steering wheel - You need to remove the steering wheel. I've just had a problem with my wipers, traced to this cable which was broken.
