Just a few questions, Have booked trackday at croft on 20sept with HHC is anyone else on here going? I'm going to get Ian at Torque RVT to give the cerb a once over before i go but any tips? Whats everyones opinion on trackday insurance? Thanks for any advice in advance.

Take it easy, drive a few laps and come in, build up to what you are comfortable with during the day.

But, most importantly, have fun.

Does this trackday cover actually give you any cover though?

I thought all trackday cover was purely for 3rd party liability?

In which case just stay away from others as if you do bin it you're not gonna get any money for your car.

Completely the opposite, I'm afraid. There is no 3rd party liability on a track day, so if someone runs into you then your own insurance has to cough up. If you don't have any, you have to cough up yourself (or maybe take out a private prosecution against the individual responsible?)

Cost me £140 for 1 day track insurance earlier this year, that was to cover £15ks worth of damage with £1500 excess (and that was the cheapest quote!). Ive recently moved insurers to Mannings and that includes TVRCC and(whatever the official track day organising body is called) organised track days.

Better to be safe than sorry

Indeed - and that's a similar deal Peart's offer me, worth playing one against the other to get the best price at renewal time. The only reason I stick with Peart's is because I have informed them (on a long fax) of all the modifications to Grizzly and if I swap to Mannings I'll have to go through the whole rigmorale again Rich...

I told Mannings of my mods over the phone (Ok, just wheels and exhaust). They quoted me a price there and then, which was £60 cheaper than Direct Line. As I didnt have any NCD in my own name they took into count my years of company car use and gave me full NCD

Hi

First thing have you got sports exhaust fitted if you have you will need trackday silencers fitted it might be worth checking the DB limit for the track you are going on most are 98db some standard exhausts might go over too so it will be worth getting yours checked before you go as you do not want to get there and not be allowed on the track.

Have you got dot5 brake fluid otherwise you could be going into a bend and press the brakes and nothing happens it happened to me and it was not good experience needed to change my pants.So it might be worth seeing what was put in on your last service.

Get all your levels check and take some oil with you as the engine will run hotter and burn more oil.

Increase your tyre presures about an extra 4lbs

dont forget to check your fuel level it can be easy when your having fun, find out where the local petrol station is that sells 98ron petrol and work out when you need to go and get some.

take anything out of the cabin and boot thats not screwed down bits flying around can hurt.

take your liscence and the right helmet.

If they have an instructor pay for him to sit next to you and show you the right lines it will also be the best mone you will spend and give you extra BHP.

Listen to the breifing and learn what the flags mean before you go.

Most important you will learn the limits of your car and lastly enjoy.

...and did you say not to use the hand-brake but to leave it in gear instead?

p.s. This is because when the discs are very hot after a session putting the hand-brake on can cause localised heating up of the disc possibly causing the disc to warp.

My car is 105db but never had any problems at Croft although I always take my ACT silencers, after being thrown off Elvington by some jobsworth .
