changing the cats

anybody changed their de-cat exhaust at home on scissorjacks/axle stands ??
i assume the chassis guard has to be unbolted to access the cats or is it really a job for the trusty ramps ???

Much easier on ramps.

I've done mine at home, lying on my back etc and yes it can be done but where its a hours work on the ramps its more like 2 and a half hours lying underneath

Did mine at home. Bought a couple of wheel ramps from halfords and used a couple of planks of wood to shallow out the incline to allow me to reverse up them.

Then just a matter of removing the guard and replacing the cats, coupled with a mad dash to the local quick-fit in your spare car before they close, when your existing bolts snap on removal.

cheers guys i might do it myself then do they need any gaskets or do they come with the new pipes ??

No gaskets. I really do recommend getting a new set of bolts before you start though, as the old ones are likely to be rusted to buggery.

I took my manifolds of two days ago. used a jack and put concrete blocks under the front, loads of room to get under and super safe. Havent got any axle stand so used what was handy. I put a heat bandage on both manifolds its made a big difference to the heat build up under the bonnet and isnt cooking the electrics and hoses now.

Does anyone in the South Yorkshire (Doncaster way) area have a set of cats I could borrow next weekend, so that if my Cerb fails its MOT first time round on emmissions, I can swap them in just to get me through the test? Naturally, I'll pay for the service, I just can't bear the thought of my car sitting in the garage any longer than is strictly necessary!!
