Fuel Rail

Just a quick question to the people in the know. Is the fuel rail still under pressure when the engine is not running. I've got to take it off to get to the alternator and a friend of mine thinks the fuel line may still have a fair bit of pressure, even though the fuel pump is switched off.

Yes it probably is. Disconnect the fuel cut off switch and crank teh engine to reduce the pressure.
Its a connector on top of the fuel tank behind the black boxes. IIRC the plug pulls down to disconnect it.

When I disconnected my fuel feed there was no pressure BUT there is a fair amaount of fuel that will come out from the rail - shove a big rag around the joint before you crack it off and it'll be fine. Also, disconnect the battery as you really don't want any sparks until any spills have vapourised away.
