Cerb 4.5...is it worth it?

Thinking about buying a 4.5 model but not sure what their reliability etc is like? I hoping to use the vehicle most days.

Im looking for one of you guys to perhaps lend me some info regarding the difference between the 3 types (4.2,4.5, SP6)

People's opinion is normally:
fine to drive everyday (in fact often better keeping them well used)....maybe a little silly to drive when soaking/frost/snow/ice outside.

Reliablity, just as reliable as any other 400bhp supercar...

Difference between the 3:

4.5 more torque - lends itself to tuning (potentially c.450bhp), but a little lumpy at low revs...sounds wonderful
4.2 Revvier engine, not as tune-able but (apparently - don't know I have a 4.5) not as lumpy round town...sounds great
SP6 Smoother still round town...but the Cerb IS a V8...so don't fiddle with 6 cylinders ;-) - and some of the earlier ones can be troublesome (again apparently).

But try using the Search function on the Cerbera Forum - enter something like 'Newbie' or 'difference' or 4.5, 4.2 etc, etc...you will find a wealth of knowledge.

I'd say its definitely worth it.
Probably also worth getting a shed to do all the crap journeys that are no fun in a Cerb: rainynastysnowgrim, popping down the shops (engine doesn't warm up), traffic jam town rush hour etc. All depends on your circumstances and preferences though.

Buy one, use it every day whatever the weather and you will love it! Nothing like it for smiles per mile!!

Just do your research and find a good one. I would recommend Fernhurst's (01428 656377), give them a call and speak to Drew, Simon or Graham!

Go for it, you won't regret it. They are immense cars in every respect. They look, sound, feel and go like nothing else you can buy for the same money.

I agree with Oli, must have the AJP8, it's what the Cerbera was made for. 4.2 or 4.5. If you drive the two, you won't notice any difference in performance. However, the 4.5 is the way to go if you are gonna want more from it later.

Also don't buy one of the slower red, yellow, green, silver etc ones, it's gotta be blue.

It just so happens i'm selling mine very soon...... and it's a goodun and has just had a major service last week and a new MOT. and it's blue.

tread carefully on autotrader - it is worth finding a known car (IMHO).

Is autotrader the market rate? I think it influences but so does provenance, condition etc..

Hi Guys thanks for the replies, it was actually on autotrader i saw the 4.5 "S969 YON" is the veh reg. I absolutley love the colour but like you guys mentioned "is it a known one?"

Its one of those extremmly rare Oyster Gold ones, the fastest colour, just happens to be the same as mine (Opens flood gates and steps back).

Go for it you know it makes sense.

Crikey that is seriously cheap for a 98 4.5 - If it is sound then I would snap it up but be aware of the pitfalls of a buying a dog, mind you at that sort of money you can afford to throw a good few thousand to sort it out (which is exactly what I did when buying, bought cheap and spent so I knew what was what right down to the chassis). Just make sure that is in your mind when buying and you have the additional budget to spend as neccesary, if buying at £12k with not much left in the bank then you could find yourself in trouble. I bought at just over £10K and spent not far off the same again sorting it out!!

it does seem strange there are rather a lot of early 4.5 for 11-13k...

I paid 21k for mine over 1 year ago and this was a 'reasonable' price for one with a good history.

I would make sure that all of them have a full FTVRSH, as those with low miles and not a FTVRSH may need anywhere from 2-9k of work in the first year.

But it does look like now is the time to buy a Cerb...and not the time to sell...better see if I can silence the girlfriend's moaning....

I agree. The 99 one are a year younger, and much much better

Oh, and don't buy a blue one. They're too common.

The crank 'differences' are only on the 4.2's and the danger year is pre '98 SOME cranks have broken on cars before this period, supposedly after this point the castings were sorted
