How longs your dipstick, ooerr missus

My dipstick had snapped at the handle, so as a temporary (permanant) repair, my mate welded it back together. I think he managed to keep the distance from the cup stop to the marks about the same, but just to make sure, can someone measure how far the bottom marker is to the top stop.

Mines measured in at 475mm, or there abouts. It's a 4.2 BTW.

edited to add that ours is no good anyway, cause its a 4.5 and dipstick at the front

Byff - IS yours an early engine or later? ie Is the dipstick at the back of the engine or the front?

I measured 475mm also.

Mine's a '97 4.2 and the dip stick is at the back of the engine.

Lovely, thanks lads. I've been filling my oil to the mid point, just to be safe, but it's nice to know that I'm not overfilling it.
