How do buy a good AJP engine?

I'd like to know how you would go about buying a good AJP 4.5 engine,and how much it should cost?It would be a full engine,complete with all anciliaries and flywheel etc,and also a bellhousing if poss.How do you best asess its condition when out of the car for example,are there any specifics for this engine to look for?Also where would you recommend the best place to source one-past experiences anyone?

I'd first try the independants such as APM/Austec/joolz, I found the breakers were having a laugh with silly quotes.
When I was looking for a replacement lump the going rate seemed to be 2k for an unknow engine up to 6k for a very good one. There is a 4.5 in the classifieds at present for 4k, don't know what its like, see here www.pistonheads.com/sales/98290.htm
