Are you just adding the sub-woofer as an addition to the original speakers? or have you already upgraded them?
If you still have the original speakers, instead of adding a SubWoofer Id reccomend replacing the original fronts with bigger MB Quartz ones and 2 x tweeters, did that on mine and it made a huge difference.

I've picked up some MB Quart speakers, RCE 216 component speakers for a really good price.
However to fit them probably means I need to spend a day working on the door and from plugging them in I'm not sure they are much better than the pioneers (which seem to be quite high spec ones, not like the usual Cerb ones?)
The woofers are slightly deeper than the originals so even with removing the foam backing I'd probably have to cut off the speaker 'dish' the magnet sits in and deepen it slightly using a fibre glass repair. I could leave it out all together, but I'm guessing it's there to weather protect the speakers.
The tweaters are fine to fit and would mount easily.
Bear in mind that with these as well that you will need additional wiring/connectors to fit it all together.
The other problem is where to fit the crossovers. Due to their size, the only easy place looks to be inside the door itself, so exposed to water running down the window? With the multi connection plug having the speaker connections in them it looks like it would need additinal wiring running in and out of the inner door skin. The really neat job would possibly be to fit the crossovers in the passenger footwell on the box cover under the dash, but this means running 2 additional speaker wires through the door (if we use the original two as well).
Ah decisions, decisions. At the moment it's all as it was.

i'm going to replace the lot.
Someone has already replaced what was in the car with Infinity speakers, which sound completely toss.
The head unit is basic, but good.
I think i'll pay Carl Baker a visit and get a properly installed system.....

yep
They do know their stuff! Had the focals in my MK1 Golf and the Rainbows in my chim. Top job both times, couldn't get shot of the alternator whine on the chim though but that was just an earthing problem that I never got round to sorting.

The RCEs ought to trample all over the Pioneers. The only issue with Quarts is that some made it into the US market (due to the acquisition of MB quart), which had the Quart name, but were not built in Germany. There are some Quarts on ebay from the US and it's hard to tell their origin, however if you look at the sellers, they tend not to have a complete range, indicating that they're possibly selling this end of line US stuff. Carl Baker knows the full in's and out's of the saga if you need to know.
Steve.

Give's you an idea of the size of the crossovers I have - bearing in mind they are 6.5" speakers.
As I said ont he other speaker thread
There's another couple of ideas here. There are some really slim active subwoofers.
Halfords have the Alpine one:
www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores
and there's a really slim Blaupunkt version designed for fitting under car seats.
www.blaupunkt.com/uk/7606305001_ma I've seen this around for £100
Both of these may fit easily into the helmet storage space.
