Just heard this off the grapevine... TVR Cerberas/chims/griffs are considered cheap glorified kit-cars amongst the elite... The fact anyone who can afford a used banger bmw can afford a used tvr makes them a very attractive purchase, even for the odd man with holes in his pocket....
I seriously felt like beating the living shite out of this group, but they made some points that really hit hard and true (mostly merc/bimma owners, and the 60k plus material too).... no wander people progressively move on to porsches, top-end bimmas/mercs, nobles and fezzas etc...
Anyone else ever put up with conversations/debates that make TVR's sound like they're cheap thrills and not even remotely magnificent bar they styling quo?
Why has TVR got such a 'awe' status amongst youngsters and women, but generally most fellas are like 'its cheap and nasty, a poor mans porsche' attitude????
Not that it bothers me that much, especially not driving a TVR for over 2 years now.... but still hurts when I think TVR is our last true remaining all-brit-engined heritage...

Put it this way: over here, about 95% of SL's, 8-series, M3 et al from about 7-8 years old is being sold through Auto trader by the kind of establishment that employs a pair of Rottweilers for its warranty department with a customer profile to suit, whilst LHD Chimaeras of any age command prices north of 30K euro and most are either sold from the official importer's or through the Dutch TVRCC classifieds...

bought mine because it was British, beautiful, and had wanted a TVR ever since i saw a kid at my school with a 1600M in the 70's - and because you don't see many of them around. As for the rest of it i really do not care what people think in terms of what are supposedley status symbols - they are for sheep and insecure individuals.

I'll second that. People buy TVRs because of the design, the performance and (for me anyway..) the quirky/hardcore/left-field approach of the whole thing. I think you need to be an enhtusiast to own one, and I think most people appreciate that. With Porsches and Ferraris, whilst some are no doubt owned by enthusiasts, a lot are owned because of the status some people believe they have. And these days, thats due to the fact that both are relatively mass produced compared to TVRs.
Anyway, people should just buy what they want and not assume what is best for others, or what others should aspire to.
Good grief, can you imagine spending the amount of money they do on a vehicle that performs and looks worse than a Cerb and having to strike up conversation with similar-minded dullos ? It's the only factor they can work on.
Why can't we (i.e. all people who rate our vehicles as something more than a box to get us from A to B) all just get on ? Apart from the obvious fact that they're a load of materialistic w@nkers !

Reminds me of one day last summer when I was giving the Chimaera a coat of yellow carnauba wax. Guy stands watching at the gate, then offers the comment: "Doesn't matter how hard you polish it mate, it's never going to turn into a porsche!".

It’s a shame that some people feel the need to continually ‘slag off’ TVR, the cars and their owners. If it's not one thing it's another????

Parked the Cerb in the multi story at work today, and the boxster owner followed me. Parked up and went on my way. You could see the look on this guys face, the boxter cost him about £40k and he looked at the Cerb, and his face said it all ' now why didnt I think to get a TVR'
Seriously, the amount of looks I get get from people admiring the car when I drive it is unreal. I'm glas TVR stop making them, the more elite they are now, but I do wonder what I will be able to get when Tvr Cerbs are finally gone...

I had the "don't you want a Porsche" question while I was with some mates at a stag over the weekend, from a guy who was somewhat into his cars.
Yes, I replied. A 911 would be great for my daily run-around to take the kids to school and drive to clients. What surprised him is that I'd still have to have a fun car in the garage and TVR are one of the few marques that fit that bill.

Every time I read negative comments from Fezza or Porker owners, I always think about this little clip. Still brings a smile to my face, never thought I'd see the day.

I suspect a lot of people would be very suprised that older TVRs are now within reach of average salaries. I certainly was when I searched on AutoTrader before buying mine (I was originally thinking Elise or XK). They are hardly cheap though.
This is a great thing, I think - the fact is there is NOTHING I can think of that comes close to TVR in terms of performance and style per pound, and that's something for TVR to be proud of.
If you are after a status symbol, and you can afford it, then you are talking about Porsche/Ferrari and similar - BMWs and Mercedes and the like may be nice, well-made cars, but they are, as has been pointed out, a dime-a-dozen.
TVRs, though hardly faultless, are (relatively) rare, fast, beautiful. Those who know a little about cars, may know they are made on a budget, but they still provoke a reaction (and generally a positive one at that) in most places. None of the other cars mentioned (apart from Ferrari) do that.
Even if I had the money to afford one of the 'elite' brands mentioned (BMW? Mercedes? really?), I'd still go with TVR (or something else a little different - Noble/Maserati/Marcos?). The others are so... ordinary.

I just think ultimately, wether you are in a fezza, a porker or whatever that cost 60k+ you know full well that the loud trevor in front of you thats popping flames out the back can drop you like a bad habit whenever it wants to and you in your 60k+ car will look like a tart
the trevor will always be seen as a `real` mans car wether its unreliable or not, its unpredicatable and therefore seen as dangerous and even more hairly chest manly!

Even if i had it up big on the lottery,TVR would still first and formost be in the garage full of exotica.What makes them different for me is that they are individual,You can hardly say they are a poor mans sports car,running cost alone blow that claim out of the water.I think we have a classic case of jealousy on the behalf of the elite,that we are driving around in more intresting and fun cars than what they are driving.And that shows by the reaction you get when you drive yours on the road.

for me you can use the analogy of a night out...
would you rather be:
1) in a high class wine bar that costs £5 a drink, but all the right people go there to be seen

2) in a good old fashioned boozer, getting sozzled, where you laugh so much, you crack 3 ribs.
