First and maybe last post

I can't beleive it, after lurking for a little while (great site, searching forum has been a massive help) I have finally registered.

This is my first post and unfortunatly probably one of my last.

I have only had the car for a few months and I just recieved some life changing news, "The girlfriend is pregnant". Due to finances and the fact that she was dead against me buying the car in the first place its got to go.

The beast is a 2001 4.2 V8 light weight, 26,000 miles, in titanium silver with black leather and aluminium interior, its rolling on 18" spiders with all the usual extras & full TVR service history

I have advertised on autotrader for £18500 as i'm in no rush (the longer I get to keep the car the better, just don't tell the misses).

Why on Earth would you want to sell it because of that? A friend of mine had a Cerbera which he used for his family days out until recently and his children are about 6 & 9. Perhaps you just want an excuse to sell?

Its mainly due to the finances not the fact that the cerbera is not baby friendly, the girlfriend has an astra for day to day use.

I don't currently live with the other half and I am being stongly encouraged to find a suitable family home. The car has just been advertised and the house and motorbikes are next to go!!!

Don't get me wrong I am delighted with the news, but I'll be after some reward for all the sacrfices i'm making

Your reward will be the first smile from the munchkin - worth more than any TVR...

Plus time will tell. My Cerbera went shortly after our first arrived, but 18months down the line I'm back in TVR land.

ty an advert on Pheads!!! Later 4.2s can be hard to shift as they got rarer and rarer post 97. I did once read on here that the late 4.2s are the best ever cerb - so your car could be a cracking opportunity for someone! good luck with baby and car and all that jazz. I would wait until the baby arrives before selling though!

I lurked for a while before signing up and posting, congratulations with the pregnancy, I have seen a few pictures of car seats in cerbs though. One of the reasons I went for the cerb is the rear seats, two kids 5 & 2, having some boosters made to make them safe(er) in the back.

But wife still doesn't like it! oh well, just me and the kids then

I spoke to the guys at AutoMedon recently - Who used to actually build them - and he also said that the later 4.2's were the best ones, the later ones had 4.5 cranks. Check with the factory it could be a good selling point for you.

Anyway look on the bright side, your a real man - you've owned a Cerb and made your missus pregant Good luck Mate, enjoy it while you can (and the Cerb too)

Are you sure boosters will make the safer ie lifts them up nearer rear screen . Also boosters will still be illegal as they are not approved ones.

number of things you need to deal with here!

a) girlfriend not happy with your car purchase? Tough! Slippery slope...
b) Cerb has two back seats, mine arrived when my daughter was 2 months old and I kept it till she was 5y and son was 1y. Traded it in for a 355 because wife had an ML, grow some balls man btw my daughter still gets upset when she asks me why I sold the TVR! She loved it...
c) your girlfriend has an Astra for shopping runs.

Unless the finances will break you, keep the car you claim to love. You do state you're in no rush to sell, finances can't be THAT bad!

I can second both of you, it was Automedon that told me the late 4.2's are meant to be the best standards cars you can buy. (had the same conversation during my service on Monday!)

I think its the entire bottom end thats actually 4.5...but they didnt tell anyone

The advice I have is that as there are no seats that fit properly, nothing can be illegal. The boosters being made are to lift the little bottoms up so the lap part of the belt fits more across the hips/lap rather than across the guts. Then add a 'safety 1st' triangular belt fitting that helps keep the cross belt away from their necks.

I feel that they will be safer with this set up although not officially approved, and my mind has been put at rest by a few places saying that if an approved booster/seat will not fit, you are not breaking the law by not using one.
