Power steering?

Silly question, but did all Cerbs come with power steering as standard, mine is a 96 4.2 which I always assumed had PAS, but the other day I started to wonder if it does, as it's quite heavy at parking speeds?

All did.

However its one of the things that fails - the power steering pump is shaft driven, and the Woodruff Key at the end of the shaft can shear.

Engine needs to be, at least, lifted off its mountings to fix.

However if this happens, the normal solution is to fit an electric pump, I think the Tuscans use one. The equivalent part if from a Citroen Saxo; It works well, if anything better than the original, and is relatively easy to fit.

If yours has failed you'd know - typically you get a squeaky 'twittering' noise, then the PS becomes jerky, before failing completely.

Beware the UJ in the front O/S wheel arch drying out. Mine went a couple weeks back, making the steering very heavy. Bit of de-greaser followed by some lubrication sorted it.

The steering is ok, there are no "twittery noises" or anything untoward, just feels heavy at parking speeds.

I`m assuming the PS fluid level is OK?

I had this problem on mine 2 years ago... Joolz did something to it, it was a dodgy seal or something... suddenly steering came alive!.... I'd pop into a reputable indie and get the seals and pressures checked... remember, hydraulics work with pressure, if something isnt pressurizing, then you aint getting the full use of your PAS.... saying that, I much prefer the Tuscan steering, a lot lighter and quicker in comparison, but then thats a whole different setup.

I'd second this as something to check. So easy even I managed it, and it made wuite a difference to the feel of the steering as well as the ease.
