they recon the more you use it the better it will be,if i was in your position i would buy one of someone on here,i know theres a couple of lads on the cerbra forum selling,i bought mine private and had some problems that i dont think i would have had if i would have done as i have just sugested, good luck Daz
Try posting in the Cerbera forun: www.pistonheads.com/gassing/forum.asp?f=6&h=0
Also use the search facility.
Like many cars you get good 'uns and bad 'uns. The Cerb' is a highly strung beast with a motorsport heritage engine, you'll not get Honda reliability or Ford running costs, but smile per mile it's hard to beat.

Stu, what seems like many moons ago we were in the same position as yourself.......
Have good read through the threads (past & present)on P/H on the Cerbera forum.
They will give you a sensible idea of general running costs.(Cerb probably the most expensive TVR to run)
One thing we did was to pop along to the nearest TVR car club regional Meet.
Now before anyone says I'm plugging the TVRcc
let me just say that we weren't Members when we first went along....but we managed to talk to loads of well informed people who were very knowledgeable about their Cerbs and answered some of the many questions and worries we had about buying one. They were also chuffed to bits for us when we eventually drove up in our P & J
Good Luck in your search.
If you buy a good 'un the grin will stretch a mile wide!

They can be used daily, as many people do, but i wouldnt recommend it if you are doing lots of miles, you are better off running a second car. Servicing is every 6000 miles which can tot up (in my case because i would need 4 services a year!). I use mine for a second car, it is run every week. As mentioned above the more they are used the more reliable they appear to become.
Unreliability is over-hyped, but if you gat a bad one you could easily end up with a few huge bills. When they are looked after they are not unreliable at all, i have had mine a year, never been stranded, never failed to start. Hasnt bitten me at all, but i am not the same as everyone.
Best place to look for advice is here....have a look through the old threads and all will be revealed.
The main worries are the clutch, clutch seals and pressure plate itself. Also look out for starter motors, make sure the chassis is solid, particularly the front end. I suppose personally i would be checking for smoke on start and high revs, leaky shocks, and play in the diff, cooling system working well. Not meant to frighten you off at all, but they all need a check.

More miles, more smiles. They can get expensive to run, but with a little bit of know how and if you are able to wield a mighty set of spanners, you can get the running costs down to reasonable levels.
The vast majority of problems will be electrical based and usually of the more niggly nature - for instance, windows not dropping to let you out, door buttons not working, rev counter stops working, big fuse blows, wipers stop working, headlights wont work, boot wont release or boot keeps on releasing. All of these can be recified fairly easily and if you buy from someone that's already had these problems, will get some advice on how to do it and what to look out for.
Mechanical problems usually manifest themselves as worn bushes, squeeling brakes, clutch master/slave seals and clutch fingers, then you get the odd blown engine or snapped crank to really put the frightners on you, but I think these occasions are pretty rare.
If I were you, I'd buy mine
