EBC Brakepads "redstuff"

Hi - has anyone any experience of using EBC Redstuff cermaic brakepads, and if so, good of bad??

Bad experience on another car (Impreza). Took thousands of miles before they bedded in, then they wore out in another couple of thousand

When new they were actually dangerous.

All good for me, use them in my 300zx and more importantly, to you, in the Cerb', I use the Cerb' on track and have competed in the TVRCC Speed Championship this season and they have behaved inpecably, offering no fade and good 'grip' from nearly cold.

I would say considering the cost differance between EBC Reds and OE AP Racing pads, buy a set of reds and give them a go, from memory they are a third the cost of AP racing pads!

Good experience here. I run red stuff on the Chim race car, the first set I had were the older non ceramic compound and they were ok from cold, but gave off loads of brake dust and didn't last many races before they needed replacing. I replaced them with the later red stuff ceramic compound and they excellent. Bite from cold, have plenty of material left on them despite running for over 2/3rds of the season and give of less dust.

I had a bad experience, new in before a TVR track-day at Snetterton this year. They expanded and marginally locked on unbeknown to me until I lost the brakes fortunately after braking at the end of Revett Straight!!

Drained the fluid and put the old Mintex in and was fine after that.

In a subsequent discussion with someone who knows more than I at Racing Green, I was warned off them as they do marginally expand under heat and as the Cerb's brakes are effectively a bolted one piece of billetted alloy, this too expands!!

Moral is they need to be well worn before you give them grief!

Now I like to hear my pads rattle, then I know they are "not" getting over friendly with the disc before I put my foot on the stop pedal.

Good experience on track for me.

Contrary to what it says on the box about working from cold though, they do need some warmth in them. Your first stop out of the garage on a cold day will require more pressure than Mintex's.

For that reason, I've got a full set of fronts and rears still in their boxes somewhere that have only done one track day after which I put my old pads back in again. With an expanded family and reduced free time, sensible offer secures a new home for them!
