switching on side lights / dippeed lights - another problem

hi - just driven home from work in the cerbie .... and another problem.

Side lights / main lights - when i switch them on from the twiddle knob, they dont always come on / up to the right brightness

i can hear clicks from the black box in the back - and sometime the lights come good, others they dont :-(

anyone seen this behaviour before, and if so - what is the cause??

All of the dash lights are coming up fine, so i dont think its the ribbon cable from back of the switch, and with each turn of the knob (i.e. from side to dipped) i can hear the box clicking in the back...


aaarrrggghhh help :-) getting close to end-of-teather with this motor - anyone wanna buy (ok - i dont mean it)

Access the little black boxes in the boot above the fuel tank. I expect 1 or more of the contacts have burnt out on your lighting control box. Could also be the dim/dip box.

TVR in there infinite wisdom fitted lamps that draw too much current for the pathetically underated wiring.

Hey budaholic - just found it inbetween me sending and your answer - had already replaceed connector on the main light control box - so presumed all was well - on looking at the dim/dip control box - two connectors two the top right (if you are looking to the connector facing you) are badly corroded on connector block - and black box - guess a clean up and new connections are in order :-)

No probs, I only know cos exactly the same thing happened to mine.

A more long term fix is to fit two relays fed directly from the battery, make sure the feeds are fused and use the current wiring to switch the relays, stops the said pathetic wiring from taking the load, and hopefully stops any burning control boxes!

does anyone know of a cerbera electric expert who can help me.

I have sold my car to a very understanding chap called Neil, on the understanding that it has an MOT. Only thing stopping the pass is a fault horn/main beam/wiper switch. Thought this was down to a cracked ribbon cable in the steering wheel, so eventually got that replace, however the problem still persists.

The buttons work and have been checked but am at my wits end as Neil has now been waiting 3 weeks and I need the money to prepare for the baby!

Just an idea, can you replace the ribbon upstream of the steering wheel?

It does still sound like a ribbon fault somwhere?

I am assuming the actual fault is intermittant operation of the buttons?
