I have a wire sticking out of my MBE box. It has a connector on the end of it with two holes in it - I suspect to stick something into it...

Any ideas what this is???

I believe its used for re-mapping the chip. Just ignore it, use the serial port inside the MBE box to do diagnostices on the Laptop,

I didn't say that I didn't understand it, I said can you elaborate a bit please. For example what sort of output does the fault code reader give, why has it got a flashing light on the top and why is it a waste of time?

I have no idea what sort of output it has. the flashing light tells you what code it has found .. ie two flashes might mean throttle pot, 3 flashes might mean air temp sender. It's a waste of time because you still have to connect the laptop up to make surethe fault is actually fixed anyway or to make sure something else wasn't causing hte f ault in hte first place, i don't know anyone who uses the fault code reader when the diags software gives you everything you need.

Ah now I see..
It is probably a complete waste of time and space. Nothing else for it then, I'll have to get a laptop. Thanks for the info.
