Engine cuts out

On the way home tonight. Symptoms : main-beam switched itself to dip, then the engine cut, as if the ignition was switched off. I pulled over, pressed the immobiliser in and it started on the button immediately. Drove the mile or so home with no further problems. Any thoughts ?

What do you mean, 'pressed the immobiliser in'?

My normal starting procedure ? Shove it in, then press the starter.

Big fuse replaced today. Mucho thanks to Scott. (purpleheadedcerb) I owe you one mate.

No worries. Made alot easier by a someone with a lamp and holding the wires back. Fingers crossed the alarm behaves itself as well now.

Dunno what it`s called really! The thing that`s not the blipper....

You don't need to use that unless the battery runs out in the blipper.

If you're within 15 seconds of unlocking the car, it should just start on the button.

If it's after 15 seconds, just press the blipper briefly, you should then have another 15 seconds in which to press the button.....

I start it like this...
Turn off alarm with blipper.
Get in car and press black button, if all lights (including MIL)etc come on press black button and it starts.
If black button only lights up some lights (MIL light doesn't come on) press blipper agin until all lights come on and fuel pump primes.
Press black button until car starts.
I don't shove anything in anywhere!

To turn off the imobiliser you can use the key fob as already mentioned. However you need to push the button on one edge as apposed to fully. The edge you use is where the indent into the fob is.

I'm on my second Cerb now, wehn I bought the first one the previous owner had had it for 8 years, the second one the owner had had it for 3 years. Both of them said "You have to start it withhin 15 seconds, if you dont then you have to insert the black immobilser 'thingy' into the socket in the cubby hole, then press the black button, it's real pain!"

Both were amazed and well pi**ed off when I showed them that if you go over the 15 seconds all you have to do is breifly press the blipper button again. It amused me

If they were doing that, then I'm sure there must be a others out there who are doing the same thing, so if your one of those ownere, now you know
