People with snapped cranks

Ok on the advice of Extra 300 Driver about my shattered crank i was wonder how many people have had there crank snap in there 4.2 so i can put it to the warrenty company that its a material or design fault and not just normal wear and tear(altho at 16k miles i dont see how it can be considered wear and tear)

Ballsy, sorry to say it but you're probably on a no-win with the warranty people.

The impression I get is that scientific fact or engineering opinion will probably have nothing to do with the lack of joy you've had with them.

They seem to run on the basis of:

£xxx = sum of all premiums received this year
£yyy = sum of all payouts made this year

If £xxx < £yyy then value of next payout = £0.00

they are notorously bad at paying out i've dealt with these type of warranty's before and unless its free they are worthless to honest even if you get it fixed its with s/h parts or shoddy workmanship IMHO

I would contact trading standards and ask them to investigate
a crank snapping at 16k could never be desribed as normal wear and tear
or threaten them with the small claims court, i think they have a £5000 limit, which would mostly pay for the repair

I have an enginnering report on the crank snapping on my 4.2, with its previous owner. It tried to imply that the oil supply was interrupted which caused the bearings to pinch, thereby snapping the crank. You can have a copy if you like. Also bear in mind that Al Melling did confirm a crank weakness on early cars - TVR were aware of this but made no recall.

It may be an idea to do a search for 'snapped crank' as Cerberas on here now have moved to a new generation of owners, and the problems may be unknown to them.
