After leaving home on Friday, I approached my local island, saw a bike coming & stopped.
I looked in the rear view mirror to see an old Rover 25 hurtling towards me, car going forward, driver looking right in to the island.... And waited for the inevitable crunch... ouch.
So that's another new back end required.
On a more disappointing note, the next day I had an M3 about a foot off my rear bumper, I was in low revs in third gear & couldn't be arsed dropping a cog, but I didn't manage to shake him off until way in to the high rev range, and even then I'm not sure if he lifted or not.
Was it the fact that I never used the gears, have I got a poorly car (apart from the back end
or are there some quick versions of the M3 about ?

Mate has just bought an M3. He was quoted 4.8 secs to 60 which surprised me, but it is packing 345bhp plus all the electronic traction aids.
However I had little trouble staying with him in my Tuscan, naturally.
Bear in mind if the car behind is that close to you it has the advantage of your slipstream tow.
Side by side would be a little different, but not much. However M3 soundtrack is nothing to that of a TVR.

Gotta say, would be very surprised if the M3 was giving you a hard time. they are fairly torquee in the low revs (mind you, through all the revs, but not as free reving.) and nothing as lively as a 4.5/4.2 - if it was an E46, then from my personal experience, my standard one had only 335bhp or thereabouts - some decent headers and software can get you +50 - definately not enough to trouble a Cerb though. I never ever felt the type of great-neck-speed in the M3 that I do in the Cerb. But that said, i have heard of some Alpina's and the sort with superchargers and 450+ Bhp - from what I used to know, getting an M3 to 400 bhp is not as hard as you think.
I am sure the BMW guys can add more.
Also, I truly feel that when up against anything of decent pedigree, there is little in a road race, unless you have been racing for a few miles...even a 1 sec speed advanatge, would only put you a touch in front or behind of the the guy you are racing - standing start however, now that's a race that a standard or sightly moded M3 would lose.

Cheers Simon, that's the second rear ender in two years. A new rear quarter last time, but this time I think it's a whole back end. I know the rear quarter last time was £1750, so that's £3500 plus labour & paint on a £12.5k car. hhmmm.
Just hope the guy's insured.

I was doing about 2000 revs, when I floored it in third, so if he was in second in the high rev range, he might have had the edge.
Still surprised me though.
Might get it on a RR & see where I'm at.
Still managed a mid 14's 1/4, more than enough to see it off.
