Although it is certainly not frozen yet- if at all a bit damp- I nearly lost it in one of my usual roundabouts tonight- slow in fast out was the plan- but front end out first if poss- nearly gone out backwards- without the slightest warning- looking forward to the winter- anyone here who thinks prewarning might be better7 more feeling with a suspension upgrade? Luckily I was slow enough to catch back end again....
Ive had the backend come out at 15mph on a couple of occasions--i was just thankful i was going that slow...if any faster i would have lost it spun and hit barriers.
my rule is if its damp, off camber or frosty---- only accelerate when straightened up.
i seem to recall last winter when everytime i checked this forum someone had written one off... remember guys there will only ever be less and less of these cars on the road never more.

yep exactly what happened to me a couple of times..i was barely pressing the accelerator. So I am not the only one then- yup- careful in the winter then
Gazzab- apart from you being extremely careful and also having a lot of experiance with the cars- were yours both on standard suspension or upgraded? Do you think it makes a difference???
Certainly would not like to add mine to the writeoffs...

I don't agree. Whilst I wouldn't go as far as Don Palmer ("The Wetter the Better" ) I'd say there is lots of fun to be had in the wet.
Just a bit more carefully than in the dry.

Provoke it, it slides, change the throttle and steering angle to catch or ride it out a little. I was *going for it* on that run, so I wasnt being gentle, even so I was suprised at how harsh you have to be with the throttle at times to make it step out. I understand in normal driving conditions you may not always be on your toes, but it doesnt always just suddenly snap round at you. Just drive sensibly if you dont like the conditions/ feel a little concerned.
Maybe I just got lucky and everything worked out that day? Or maybe im getting too used to haveing a 1.5 metre wheelbase... that is snappy.
Yep I'd agree with the go for it pilots. Take your car out on the road and lose the back end.
Pick your time and place, but get used to it. You'll do it at fairly safe speeds, and give yourself time to catch.
People who only drive in the dry have little idea where the limits are and are pretty dangerous on a road anywhere near them.
I believe there is a special word for bikers who never go out in the wet. I think the same should be said of Cerb drivers.

I take my R1 out in the wet. Drive about half the normal speed and often have cars overtake me when riding. Tend to go back home if the back moves out, cos even in the wet it all happens too quick on my bike, and I don't think I was ever a good enough rider to cope with anything other than pottering in the wet on a bike

Define progressive ? I was suprised at how harsh you have to be with the throttle at times to make it step out.
Perhaps it`s out of tune ?More likely im too much of a wuss to give it much throttle...
