start up sequence

i was told that the correct start up sequence is- press the black button,then the immobilizer fob,let the buzzer sound for about 5 seconds and finally the black button. is this right?

Unlock the car with the key fob
get in the car as quick as possible
press the start button

There's no mystery to it, 1st push of the black button turns on the ignition, a second push cranks the starter over.
You have to have turned the immobiliser ( key-fob) off at some point either before pushing anything or after you've pushed the black button once or even if you're quick enough getting in as you've got 15 seconds before it re-sets after unlocking the car.

Thats the way I do it. Happy Driving.

Dont forget to let the fuel pump prime after the first button push, soon as thats done, hit the button again to start.

If the immobilser kicks in before you have had chance to get in the car, press starter button, press key fob, wait for fuel pump and then press the starter button.

Drive away...

Open the door, ease yourself in (quick prayer), press the black button, see the oil light, press the fob(another small prayer at the same time), hear the fuel pump, hit the black button (full on prayer at the same time), hey presto!! You're in Cerb heaven (or Hell).

My Cerbera Prayer:

Dear Lord.
Before I press this little black button,
I pray my starter motor isn't cooked like mutton.
I'm not asking you for divine intervention,
just protect me from having to rebuild this engine.
But if it starts and drives me far,
I thank you for looking after my TVR.

PS: If you have a moment, please take a look at the knocking from the rear suspension.

Interesting. I do not have to do any of that. If you open the car with the fob and try and start within 15sec (I believe) all you need to do is simply press the black button and off you go. If you leave it too long (>15s) the immobiliser comes on and you need to press the fob again to disarm the immobiliser. I never do any of this buzzer sounding mullarky and mine has started first time every time (I had to say it didn't I). Of course I may be doing it wrong myself!

Doesn't anyone let their engines warm up - get that dry sump round the engine?

I always let mine tick over for at least 5 mins before I move off...

Yes - i always leave mine running for a few minutes before setting off. Can be a pain when you have it as a daily drive! Just on the subject - do these cars have automatic chokes, as mine struggles sometimes to tick over smoothly from cold.

Does yours have a dry sump ? I never let mine stand to warm up, i go on the theory that the gearbox oil and diff oil all need to be warmed up before liftoff !!

" The choke " is in with the mapping, i think they run richer when cold.
