TVR to the Lakes

With some nervousness we decided to take the Cerbera to the Lake District for our short break. With a journey time of approx 4.5 hours from our Wiltshire home this was to be the longest journey we'd been on.
So Monday morning we loaded the boot with suitcases, walking boots and various entertainment devices for our 8 year old son.
The journey was absolutely stress free, with the only stop being forced on us for a food and loo stop for our son after 2.5 hours, with the Cerbera returning 24mpg. Everyone was very comfortable in it, so much so that we actually looked forward to the drive home last night.
Once in the lakes, it attracted a lot of attention and I was constantly being asked about it. Despite being left outside overnight for the first time in my ownership, it started first time everytime and mostly coped admirably with the small twisty roads, scraping the rear exhaust only a couple of times.
Highlights of the trip was setting off a few car alarms in Keswicks pencil museum car park and causing small avelanches in Honiston Pass whilst enjoying the noise bouncing off the sides of the pass.
All in all we travelled almost 1000 miles, at an average of 23mpg. What a car

Can I recommend that you try a trip to Europe next?
France particularly, in a TVR has to be experienced as the French love them and the roads are superb!
Whilst we were in Paris at Easter, it seemed like more pics were taken of the Cerbera by tourists as we drove past than anything else!
We have made two trips over to Europe so far, both trouble free; and we are taking it over to Denmark and Sweden next summer!!

Think i'd head across france down to the cote d'azure then into Italy.
Been to the Lakes many times in the Cerb and its always good fun, apart from last time when I snapped a drive shaft and watched it heading home on a lowloader!

After all the negative stuff recently, it's good to remember what it's all about.
I get mixed feelings reading your posts Dave - Really pleased the car is still going well for you, and your enjoying it, and the other feeling is wanting to kick myself in the Butt for selling it!
I had no problems ar all with JuMP, but had lots of problems with this one !!
The moral of the story for new buyers is....Dont buy one just because you like the colour of it, shop around and buy a good one.
PS - Don't rub it in by saying you loved the colour of it too (Please!)

Hiya Peppe,
We are planning the trip for June/July 2007.
We'll will be staying with family in Aarhus and Hillerod in Denmark, then making our way over to friends in Sweden who live just outside Karlskrone (how far are you from there?). Then back to Denmark before heading over to Esbjerg and the ferry!

Sorry I haven´t answered You until know. Probably it is to far away from Karlskrona to Falun where I live (about 400 miles). I was on a TVR club meeting down south in Sweden (Helsingborg) in may 2006. Togehter with the Club rally it became about 1000 miles in a weekend.
If You are still interested to see another part of Sweden You are welcome to wisit us, otherwise You could also look att www.tvrcc.org/ for events in the Swedish TVR-club. If You look at some pictures from the events the past year and see a blue Cerbera then its mine (1 of 2 Cerberas in Sweden, I think).

Ah it was the distance and 4 hours of driving. The longest we've been in the Cerbera and I wasn't sure if everyone would find it comfotable, how it would cope around the lakes with it's low clearence, finding superunleaded etc.
All totatally unfounded fears as it turned out. The only grounding was bouncing the rear a viscious speed hump faster than a snails pace, we only stopped for a loo break for my 8 year old etc.
Wednesday we took it to the bike show at NEC, then on to pick up a car in Stourbridge for my Neighbour (from a flat overlooking Central TVR!). 3 miles in heavy traffic took 45 mins and the car was faultless.
Next spring back holiday we're planning to take it to our friends place near Bordeaux
