the definative tyre choice thread

hi everyone

I've spent the lastt hour looking through old tyre threads and I'm as confused as ever. so... what tyres are you all running and how do you rate them (mine are due to be replaced soon) I'm currently running bridgestone SO3's but can't compare them to anything else.

bit leftfield, but i've got Dunlop SSR trackday specials for grip they are quite excellent and despite the warnings on the side quite good in the wet as well . Its early days but the wear rate seems good as well

I've had SO2's 3's Falken's and Eagle F1's and out of that bunch the goodyear eagles are way ahead IMHO!

But am gonna change very soon....so will watch this thread with interest.

I happened to take a close look at them this weekend and the SO2's are cracking all around the outer edge of the tread...not sure what this is due to, but a bit worrying. They are quite new, only done 2000km's. Wonder if the cracking/drying out is due to extreme temperature changes? Cold winters - hot summers etc.

I concur!

Goodyear Eagle F1's seem to be a great tyre for the car, and provide excellent grip in the wet and dry along with a good wear rate!

I have Toyo Proxes - I think T1-S on the back, T1-R on the front (or maybe the other way around? can't remember). They were Leighs Tyres specials on ebay. I like them, but haven't tried anything else on a Cerb so can't really compare with anything else.

Eagle F1s here also, I would stick with them when I come to this current set.

Me too, both GS2 and GS3 variants (16" and 17". A lot of people have ben happy with Falkens too.

Exactly - had mine on for 12 months and they are a great improvement over the SO2's.

Not driven them yet but I have a set of Falkens waiting as they seem to have a good press from the cerbera massive.
I previously tried F1's on the V8S and found them to be made of jelly and quite frightening when fitted on the rear, not so bad on the front. I know they are different cars obviously but they were bad enough for me never to fit them to any power rwd car again .

Interesting. I fitted a set to my old capri (3.1 long stroke engine) and they transformed the handling so I did the same to my wifes MX-5 and they lightened the steering whilst really improving the handling.

My Cerbera has a pair of F1's on the rear and a mixed make on the front. I've had no real problem with the rears in the wet/damp (apart from those induced with too much right foot).

Currently finishing off my Dunlop SSR tyres & i'm so gutted that they're no longer made!

They are superb, giving outstanding grip & great wear rate.

Going for Toyo 888 next, i will keep the forum informed

Every car is different, so are the owners I thought the SO3's were good, nice strong side wall and predictable handling .
With the F1's it seemed that the side wall's were made of jelly in comparason and when fitted to the rear it felt as if the they were flexing with the torque under acceleration, most disturbing .
I had to increase the pressure so much to put some stiffness into them it was beyond a joke. I swapped them with the SO3's off the front, problem went away, so no doubting it was the tyres.
I left them on the front (not forgetting V8S's as standard have the same rims front/rear) and put up with the fact that I lost steering sharpness and feel by a large percentage. As I said before never again, but thats me .
